A female Doctor would be very interesting indeed.
I actually think Eddie Izzard will be rather good, I've seen him in a few dramatic roles and rather liked the results. Dr Who was always tongue in cheek from Tom Baker onwards.
Still got my Tom Baker era scarf at home somewhere, only thing my long suffering Mum ever knit for me.

Yes, but Izzard is straight, and no where near so campy. I'd love to see a Julian Clary Doctor:

But there's a difference between tongue in cheek, and being wishy woshy or just plain stupid. The Doctor went downhill after TB in my opinion. Substantiall downhill.
TB, and tose before him just seemed like masters of that role to me. The latter Doctors seemed like cheap fakes :?
The ABC (Australian Broadcasting Association) here in Oz has just last month started showing the Dr Who series from the very beginning. We got to see a Dalek being removed from its case the other night!
Which makes me wonder - was the whole Dalek thing a metaphor for watch tragics, and is Eddie in fact a Time Lord? :twisted:
I've got to agree. I strated watching Dr. Who at the end of Troughton (I can just remember it), I was a Pertwee/Tom Baker child and thought that the Tom Baker stuff went a bit rubbish towards the end - but 7 years is a long time in a role like that.The Doctor went downhill after TB in my opinion
However, I've friends who grew up with later Doctors and, with the single consistent exception of Colin Baker (who EVERYONE thhinks is CR@P!) they seem to prefer the Doctor they grew up watching. It must be to do with who was Doctor when you were "just the right age".
There were some good episodes with Davison and McCoy (but not many IMHO).
Me - I was a Blake's 7 man - fantastic - never missed an episode, even to the extent of forcing my dad to get a replacement telly at short notice when our blew up 2 hours before Blake's 7 was due to air!!

You are absolutely correct. You can always determine someones age by discovering who their favourite Dr was. I'm a child of the Pertwee/Baker years myself!

They're just into year 2 Tom Baker (just done Talons of Weng Chiang, Fang Rock, Robots of Death, Invisible enemy, Image of the Fendahl).
Fantastic - Louise Jameson - when she was pretty - in a skimpy leather outfit - hubba hubba!
They're showing early Pertwee at the weekends too.
