    Dreadnought GMT

    Hi all

    Greetings from sunny Singapore :o

I believe there was some discussion about the DN GMT possibly having a dual purpose Elapsed Time / 24 Hour Bezel, with the question raised on how this could be achieved ....

I was thinking that, short of using a dual bezel design like that on the SEA3  , another way to get this dual function capability would be to perhaps engrave the 24 Hour timer on that bit of clear metal located between the inner ring of the Bezel and the crystal (this 2nd Time Zone ring would, obviously, not be rotatable).

An advantage to this design is that the existing Dreadnought Bezel can continue to be used.

A picture's worth a thousand words, so maybe this Photoshopped rendition will convey my idea better...

The original picture I used for the above PhotoShopped rendition was from the Flying Doctor's excellent http://www.prs2dreadnought.com site. I do hope you do not mind sir.

    Cheers

    Dreadnought GMT

Something I trained to do many years ago (it was a case of you do our IT you can sort this out!).

It's not hard to program it, what's tricky is making sure that it's jigged correctly to ensure consistency, and that the feeds and speeds for the tools are optimum for the material being machined. I'd say it's a case of the more knowledge and experience you have, the easier it is.

    Dreadnought GMT

Dreadnought GMT, Speedbirds, just too many nice watches from TF. I'd definitely be up for the Dreadnought GMT - particularly because it looks nice and thin. I wonder about the 53mm lug to lug length though, seems a little long.

I've been interested in this thread since it started back in bloomin' 2006!!
I'm in the market for a new watch and have been browsing Sales Corner literally hourly for weeks, but....
I haven't bought anything because I'm hanging in for one of these.
    Just hope that:-

    a) I have enough money in the 'slush fund' (anyone dare hazard a guess at what the damage may be..?) (NO)
    b) I'm not on bloody holiday when they're finally released!! (anyone dare hazard a guess at when then might be...?) (NO)

Just wish I'd got in on the 'pink list' like Simona...

Simon you made 1 mistake in trying to have us believe Eddie emailed you. That mistake was the letter ''U'' you failed to type into your fake email from Eddie lol.Eddie would know the correct spelling of ''Swanbourne''.That aside,I did actually get my invoice for the down payment of Ł300 and the remaining balance of Ł150 owed prior to Eddie posting out in October, just in time for my Birthday on the 9th Oct.

    Thanks Eddie

Paul you missed the point I'm afraid mate, the swanborne account is the exclusive members only account that Eduardo uses to contact the more exclusive members shall we say for advanced discussions on designs, forum decisions and deciding who will make the list. The account is so secret that it does not show up on the members list but if you are ever lucky enough to get a PM from it you will know as they are in pink.
    Cheers

    Yeah, me too, mate.

But there will eventually be two runs that the thread speaks of - so if you miss the first you dont need to beat yourself up (like I did when I missed out on the DN). This thread has run for several years. I have contacted Eddie and once or twice wasted his time over the last couple of years asking noob-like questions about the DNGMT. He has been more than friendly and forthright in explaining that this is the way he works and he considers the way he offers watches to be fair to all.

Since all we seem to be waiting for is a DW overlay, I would say that it is tantalisingly close.

And yes - I have changed from being an avid lurker and checking in on the thread here every few weeks, to checking in every day - just to be sure!!

Since Western Australia is about +7 hrs diff to GMT, I reckon I will be using the refresh key quite a lot in the wee hours of my morning to take my best shot. Haven't been so excited about a new watch release in a looooong time.

Yes, I can see why you are desperate for a GMT version of this watch.... 7 hrs is plenty of time to get two rounds of watches sold; you want to be there when shop opens...

The movement is different and the case is 300 metres so it's slimmer and lighter.

    LE Release or Not?

Two production runs have been mentioned. Will that be it with no subsequent releases?

How many watches are anticipated for each production run?

Watch looks even better from the front! Mmmm nice orange 12 marker.

Without the inner bezel ring (rehaut) thinky looks like a much larger face.

This isn't quite the watch for me personally but it is very easy to see why so many are going wild over this one, just as with the original TF Dreadnought. And from the latest rear view picture, I noticed that these are going to have screwed lugbars. I wanted to comment because I think these are an optimum choice for many buyers in having nearly the security of military specification fixed lugbars (provided you insure the threaded parts stay put with a bit of Blue Loc-Tite or clear women's nail polish when reinstalling the bars after each strap, etc., change) while allowing easy use and interchange of standard design (i.e. closed-end) straps and metal bracelets.

My own preference is still strongly for ("reliable as a rock") classic mil spec fixed lugbars on watches like the PRS-29A, but it is very obvious even to me that fixed lugbars are not the best or most appropriate option for every watch because they do restrict one's strap choices to open-end and one-piece types while forcing those wanting a metal bracelet to search for very exclusive types possibly not even available anymore. Considering that, I think the screwed lugbars are absolutely perfect, and harmonically so, for the new and admittedly very beautiful DN-GMT

It's difficult to tell the true depth of colour from a computer screen.
But if it looks like this orange mock-up, it should be fine.

Based on Eddie's photo, and subsequent decision, I'd suggest it isn't; hence, him wanting to alter the hand set. The photo he posted is not in keeping, from a colour perspective, with the Flash mockup.

Exactly what i was suggesting earlier. The orange in the applet is a gorgeous, rich orange. The orange in the photoshopped version above is a fluorescent, pinkish colour which does it no favours at all. I wonder if this choice is to avoid the problem with fading which appears to have affected the original Dreadnought?

I'm probably the only one interested, but.... Any chance to see a picture of it on a NATO strap? I remember trawling the net for pix of the original Dreadnought on a NATO and found very few, I guess everyone likes the bracelet, but I can never get on with them. The watch looks lovely though, I like the red dot at 12. Would have preferred the GMT hand to be red also though, but each to their own.

rolex is not the only traveller gmt: omega did one with modified 2892, but they were the only one to use such movement. also seiko has traveller gmt. i believe that are other options, if at an higher price than the rolex
