    IWC watches & Santoni shoes

The Italian shoe company Santoni manufactures straps for IWC. I'm an IWC and shoe freak myself. Any shoe freaks on this board?

I think the croco shoes are beautiful even though I haven't got the courage to actually wear them.

    Not me my friend.

I mostly live in these old boots, but I didn't want you to feel lonely so took a quick iPhone shot with the Longines Legend Diver on sharkskin strap.

If I'd planned ahead I'd have put a cup of coffee in the shot ;-)

Matching shoes with watch straps so closely makes me shudder :-)

Not in the sense that I buy Santoni's. For that sort of money (or may be just a bit more) you can get custom-made Cordovan shoes, that fit like a glove & last forever. Those I like  .

I used to be very partial to a nice pair of Barkers or Loakes but since every pair I seem to buy nowadays falls apart within a couple of months, I am not even an enthusiast never mind a freak.

let's not get started on suits (boss and armani), jeans (diesel) and bags (mulberry)

I think those shoes look fantastic, I'd wear them if I had them. Sadly someone else here who likes shoes, Church and Loake just now. I take it that Santoni are like most Italian shoe manufacturers and make them on the slim side? If so I'm out of luck taking a 12G. Just having a look at their site just now, which model are these?

A thread with 'shoes' in the title, which has actual shoes in it. What an interesting idea

    Sadly not for me.

I just buy another pair of Trickers boots every 12 years or so when the old ones wear out beyond repair. I did go a bit radical last time though, four years ago. I bought a pair of Crockett & Jones instead.

The strap on the LE Reverso (US market version) is, by all accounts, rather special...

Seen a few people getting quite excited about these straps recently: these guys - worth a visit in Amsterdam if you're over there - had an IWC shoe / strap thing a few months ago...

Birkenstock makes straps, for any casual sandal fanatics out there.

I agree - nice to see a "new shoes" thread which features actual shoes, rather than unthinking clichés!
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!

Whilst I wouldn't consider myself a shoe enthusiast in the slightest I do own several pairs of English shoes but that's because I a) I'm too tight to throw them away and always get them resoled and b) I always try to buy English-made shoes

Re: IWC watches & Santoni shoes

I actually approached a bespoke shoemaker (who also makes belts, wallets, etc) about watch straps, with little / no luck. They are now doing more mainstream stuff (with G&H) so perhaps I might try again...

Freak, Impulsive, OCD whatever you want to call it: -

3 pairs of almost new looking Loakes, these gave way to 2 pairs of Trickers Stow boots, one in Antique Acorn the other pair in cotto cordovan and to top it all bought an Antique black Leather Belstaff panther:-

Shortly followed by 2 others antique red and more of a summer tan coloured one.

Can't help myself if i see it i buy it and worry afterwards, my motto Your'e too long Dead.

Re: IWC watches & Santoni shoes

I buy Cheaney, because they're the best I can afford. One of their big advantages is their repair service. For £72, they 're-build' the shoes, which come back looking like new and fitting like a glove, because you've really worn them in by the time they need repair. Mind you, it's a slow service. Usually at least a month. This doesn't bother me, because I have 9 pairs (2 of which are 11 years old and have been repaired 3 times).

Cheaney also make shoes for Prada, by whom they are/were owned, and for Church, who are in the same group.

The salesman at Cheaney, however, when pressed, said that the shoes he'd wear if he could afford them wouldn't be Cheaney or Church, and not even John Lobb, but Edward Green: http://www.edwardgreen.com/flash/index.html

That said, none of these people make watch straps, I believe.

That's not lack of courage, that's a morsel of sanity and sense. That's pure pimpwear, and not even modern, up-to-date pimpwear, but rather big brim hat with a feather, Shaft-era pimpwear. As in, goes well with Zebra-print car upholstery.

I don't go quite so far as to specify the same grain of leather for shoes and strap, I do however have both a brown and black leather strap for my pilots chrono and will swap these around depending on what colour belt/shoes I'm wearing, so guessing that's quite fashion led??

Re: IWC watches & Santoni shoes

I do wear handmade shoes. And yes,a pair fo these cost about the same as a proper watch. But I would never, never, wear matching shoes and watch strap. (Or a belt for that matter). Too fashionable.

I must say that the ACE jewellers in Amsterdam a worth a visit. If I remember correctly, they have 3 stores. The one (Van Baerlestraat) near the Van Gogh museum is the shop with the IWC collection.

I think everyone should have the chance to try a pair of bespoke shoes. I have no problems finding off the rack shoes that fit, but my bespoke shoes fit like a glove and it's amazing how well made they are compared to even very expensive off the rack shoes.

If you want to give it a try, I can recommend Jan Petter Myhre: http://bespoke-shoes.com/

That's Lobb St James, who make bespoke shoes on St James' Street.

There's another John Lobb with a factory in Northampton which is owned by Hermes. They made ready to wear shoes, priced at about £700 and available from (amongst other places) their shop on Jermyn St. I buy them from the factory shop where they are a bit cheaper...

Yes, I am a shoe nerd. Currently at around 30 pairs from Lobb (Hermes), Green, Trickers, Cleverley and Church's for shoes, RM Williams for boots. I've been buying and rotating them for several years, they last forever (especially in shell cordovan.....). Polished regularly, worn sparingly, always with shoe trees in when not worn. I have no shame. :D

Some random pics for the other shoe nerds - see if you can name them?

Do I win the shoe nerd prize? :D

Nice shoes. I'm not sure you've won the price, but you're definitely a shoe nut. :)

Have you tried going the bespoke route?

Re: IWC watches & Santoni shoes

Nice collection of shoes there. I'd say the top pair are Church's being the owner of a few pairs myself but not sure about the others. One day I'll grab a pair of John Lobb and come the lottery win (never) a bespoke pair of Lobb's will end up on my plates. In general I (and the Mrs) am a wearer of Church's mainly. The odd Gucci, and a couple of Jeffery West's and the Mrs has a pair of Jimmy Choo (never again) but shoes are fantasti in general and I don't think I could own enough pairs.

  42. #42

Re: IWC watches & Santoni shoes

    :D

    Top to bottom:

Church's Lancaster (well done that man :D ) in shell cordovan, or "Crup", as Church's call it. I've got Shannon and Lancaster in crup too :drunken:

    Lobb Kennett

Tricker's Herman boots in shell cordovan

    Lobb Prestige Vienna

    Lobb Perrier

    Various RM Williams boots

Edward Green (for Ralph Lauren Purple Label) Parson

Various Lobbs, can't remember them all

Kriss77 - yes, I've got a couple of pairs from Cleverley that I had made and another on the way.

Jonny - they used to be about £250 up until a couple of years ago - they're now about £400 at the factory shop (depends on the model - they have the standard range and the prestige range, which are a bit dearer).

There are factory shops in and around Northampton for Lobb, Trickers, Church's, Crockett and Jones, Barker and a couple of others. There's also a Church's outlet at the Bicester outlet village. All are worth a visit.

My oldest pair of R.M. Williams boots, nearly 21 now, are about to die.
But plenty of good oiled kip leather left for a strap 8)
