    1680 on Isofrane!!!

The Isofrane I snagged on SC a couple of days ago arrived this morning, and I have to say that it's a very impressive strap indeed. Nice and solid, ultra-comfortable, fantastic buckle and seemingly not a lint magnet. If I were to try to be critical, the only thing I could mention would be the slight difficulty in pushing the tail of the strap through the keepers when putting the watch on. No biggy, it just feels a bit "sticky". Oh, and it has that lovely vanilla smell :)

I haven't worn one of Eddie's rubbers ( ), but I suspect that his are better value whilst these are better quality - well, they should be at the price. Anyway, here's a few shots of my 1680 with the Isofrane mounted - I think I can stop faffing around with straps now, actually!

    *I know - I've broken the bezel  *

The domed plexi is a dream. But I like it most on the original steel bracelet ;)

    Well it's very nice.
Personally I think the vintage tropics just pip these, you should try one, they are very comfy.

Wasn't sure about it in the first picture but on the wrist it looks better. Have to say I prefer the look on a nato. Cracking pictures though as always.

    Which "Isofrane"?

My genuine Isofrane picks up no lint whatsoever.

For me, I'm not sure it works on the Sub as that strap has always screamed "Omega" to me but that's probably just my autism. :D They're comfy alright, tho!
is your a rubber or a real isofrane, i only have vintage iso's, but they don't pick up lint whereas the rubbers are better than a duster :) Maybe the new Isofranes are a bit stickier?

Not quite up there with the quality of watch (by some distance!) but I do love the Isofrane that came with my Halios Laguna. Does anyone know why it smells of Vanilla?

Been looking for a new rubber strap for the Crux I bought off ktmog6uk last week and I've seen a few possitive posts on these now, both on the straps forum and here. Unfortunately non of Eddies are big ebough for me (the Crux needs 24mm and I need something big enough for my 8" wrists), so one of these is now on it's way.

Beautiful....Domed plexi and Iso give that a very vintage look.

I think it's a waste to have a domed plexi instead of the original one on a 1680.
Domed plexi are great on SD or ND but the 1680 really desserves the thick plexi

Great watch, great strap, but personally I'm not sure the two go together. A vintage Sub works best on a bracelet or NATO for me.

Eh? It has the correct top hat crystal, as you can see from the photographs.

    Re: 1680 on Isofrane!!!

Looks good Tony.Funnily enough the 20mm Isofrane seems a tad "stickier" than it's 22mm variant, and the keeper is tighter,i only used one keeper when i wore it briefly on my Sumo, where the MM300 rubber seemed to suit better hence the sale.
However compared to other rubbers i've used ( Ahem ) the Isofrane is less sticky and a cut above in design and comfort; And don't worry the Vanilla smell does fade!

Tony, the rollie looks fab. Also the Isofrane is a quality strap, I want one now. But i do think this strap suits a chunkier watch. I was going to try on a Deepsea, but never got a chance.

Does anyone know if Rolex ever made a rubber strap?

    ish

I've got it in my mind that Rolex may have offered some sort of tropical style strap as an option on the Sub back in the '60s?

I think you're right, Simon. In fact. I'm going to try a Tropic rubber on the 5513 as I think it might look good too.

Majorly jealous looks great on the rubber strap. I wear my PO on the rubber strap also gives it a more sporty look.

Actually looks better on the wrist than off.

I am currently wearing an Isofrane on my JLC Navy Seals Diver and think its a better look than the JLC rubber.

Plake recently sold a 5513 with a tropic strap:

    viewtopic.php?f=3&t=187235&p=1893086&hilit=5513+tr opic#p1893076

There's a suggestion here that these kind of straps were an option:

Someone with more knowledge than me (or willing to do a more thorough Google search) can perhaps provide more info.

I'm fairly sure that they were an option back in the day too, although I can't remember where I read up on it a while back. Anyway, I have one on the way so I'll post some photos when it arrives.
