HAGWE!
What is this, and where can I get one?
Love it.
O&W......
You probably can't buy one just like this, but there are several very similar models on eBay (US). In the Wristwatches category, type "Molnija" in the search window and be sure to check the box that says "Include description."Originally Posted by ronnie3585
Mine is unusual in that the movement was a very early Molnija production model that bears all the engraving as to when and where it was manufactured. Very few Molnijas share this trait.
Here's an example:

Mrs Bond and I have been away for the last few days in the mountains of British Columbia - and my trusty SMP has been with me all week :) It's back to work tomorrow/today - time difference messes with my head sometimes , but it pays for these little trips away

Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
Well it was Saturday morning here in Tokyo, but still Friday in the UK, so ... time to get up.
And up.
With a couple of friends, we take the 6.30am shinkansen ( bullet ) train from Tokyo to Mt Tanigawa. A couple of hours after setting off, and we arrive. A short walk takes us to the cable car ( strictly, a Funitel ) which can whisk weary Tokyoites the first 4000ft in 10 mins.
We decide not to take this because on our the map, next to the contours for the ridge on the right of the Funitel, it says "some of the steepest terrain in Japan". Sounds interesting. Mt Tanigawa at about 6500ft is by no means the tallest mountain in Japan ( Mt Fuji, 12400ft ) but it does have it's own somewhat unfortunate claim to mountain fame ...
More people have died on this mountain than any other in the world.
About 850 deaths known to date, more than four times as many as Everest. The relatively close proximity to the world's largest city, a warm cable car to take you half way, but landslides, avalanches, narrow rock ridges and some VERY changeable weather make it deceptively perilous.
Somewhere in the back of my mind was the story of a climbing party that had gone missing in 1943. Their bleached bones were eventually discovered. In 1973.
I decided about now that a wrist shot would be appropriate.
Looking across at the ridge on the other side, the weather is, as legend foretold, significantly worsening. We need this ridge to descend.
Made it to the first of two peaks, this one at 6440ft ...
There is another peak a short traverse away. It's actually only 40ft higher but it is higher, so we have to bag that one too ...
And of course, what I really got up at 4.30am for, the TZ-UK summit shot :
Then a quick turnaround and scamper down the opposite ridge faster than Frodo tied to an anvil. The weather, looking back to the summit ( on the right in this picture ), no doubt catching many out again.
And now down. Time for a refreshment and final cheeky wrist shot ...

Alpha today.

There are some Friday posts that I really look forward to, Paul. And yours is definitely one.Originally Posted by Tokyo Tokei

I'm always chuffed when people take the effort to post an interesting set-up, whether it's the dive pics (Mike Seadog's post earlier is a great example) or even the ones taken on the fly in front of the PC or out in the street (Alan Carlton-Browne does this to great effect with seemingly little effort). It fair makes my day sometimes.
Hats off to you all
