Thread: Christening present?

    Christening present?

I've been invited to a christening for the grandson of the guitarist of a band I'm in. (http://www.cheesepuffdeathsquad.com/)

I'm sure nothing is expected but what's the convention? I've never been to one since my godchildren 20 odd years ago!

I was thinking of a 2011 £5 coin. Am I on the right lines or would that be thought cheapskate?

Friends (female) have been going on about charm bracelets but I would think that's for girls and this is a boy.

    Any thoughts/suggestions would be welcome!

I always give mint coins like you suggest. The wife hates it and would rather give some crappy cutesy gift, but for me the coins or stamps have much more context.

Sorry if this is a bit late but along the same lines for my god-daughter's christening I got her a silver dollar with her birth year on it.
It's something a bit different and I was told it's traditional for a gift of silver.

This might be late as well, long time ago bought a silver sort of ornament that was cylindrical and could be used to sotre the birth certificate.

didnt realise that silver was the "thing" , got it from a jewellers, practial and decorative, just a thought

Thanks for more suggestions. Christening's not until the end of next month so plenty of time.

I still like the idea of a coin but if silver's the in thing for christenings, how about this?

Totally not coin related, but I gave a copy of the Little Prince as a christening gift as felt was a good book/guide
