I got a cheapish set from Cousins. Jaxa £12.95. Use it for most.
Remember to tape the back up first to help prevent scratches
Respect the past, live the present, protect the future
And a spudger for click on backs.
Thanks chaps. I have a lot to learn!
i used one of these

hope I'm allowed to post ebay link? always worked well for me.
I have a cheap Jaxa, too. The tolerances ("wiggle") are inadequate, so you really need to be carefull using one. I use a small cellophane baggie to cover the back while I use the Jaxa. Even better, and much safer, is one of these grippy rubber balls made specially to remove screw-down case backs. I've found it opens at least 50% of the backs I try it on, the remainder being too tight for this method.
The jaxa's are good for really tight or odd-shaped backs, but I prefer the two-pronged butterfly types, I find they slip far less. Of course, I only revert to metal when the rubber balls fails :)
Oh, and "Spudger". Great word!
Hi Ali, make sure you purchase a "Quality" tool as I have learnt the hard way. I now have several Bergeon (expensive but the best) case back openers & closers.
I use a jaxa type tool or this tool:
I don't have the two-prong tool (have read that you slip quite easily)
Get a roll of gaffa tape... make a little ball of it and voilą!!! Worked with every screwdown caseback for me.
the best thing... even if you might not get the cb open you won't damage it with this method!
I've used the grippy rubber ball before on a few case backs. Worked every time so far.
Really don't like the idea of scratching a case back, especially when its your mates Tag and you're changing a battery for him
Love the idea of the ball must try it, even i can't do any damage with a ball.
I have one of those rubber balls but need a proper opener as well as the ball has only opened 1 out of 3 at present. Ball is good though as it wont damage the watch.

Turn up from time to time on Ebay. Not cheap but worth the money! Will remove the most stubborn of case backs without slipping and damage - provided it's used properly.
New ones are quite expensive :!:
Kind regards
Dave

Rubber ball works great on 44mm watches and no tool marks is an added bonus.
What is a 'Spudger' and any rubber ball ? Once again I hadnt realised how many angles there were to opening a caseback, just assumed that one too and one method. I like the idea of the ball and the gaffer tape (which i can try right now) as I've scratched one caseback, luckily a beater thats now defunct
looks dangerous...
I would like to see a video of this, can you make one and upload to youtube?Originally Posted by wild84
