"Time Factors is closed until 17 April 2012 for annual stocktaking and preparation of end of year accounts.. "

Does that mean the 17th the shop will be opened? At 12pm or 8 am or.... :bounce:

The wooden box and leather pouch (the pouch is made by Aero Leather) have quite a rustic look which is what I wanted for military look.

This is the box before sanding and printing (it isn't lacquered or polished).

there is a small typo in the lug to lug distance, which should be 51.5mm.
this makes it longer than the 50b, hence to big to me.

Did nobody notice the original CAF on the wrist of the airman picking things out of the box at the very end of the video?

    Re: CAF update

I've been looking at this particular style of watches for quite some time, especially the Zeno Retro Carre, but I've been waiting for this one before making a decision. The lugs slop down quite a bit which is a good thing for me as I can't wear huge watches (and the lug shape on these make them quite a big wear!).

Anyway, my question is, how exactly do you measure the lug to lug size on this particular watch, given its lug shape? Is 51.5mm the size you get by getting a calliper from outside the tip of one lug to the outside tip of the other, or is it measure from the inside? What I mean is this...

Sorry if this is really a silly question and for using your picture Eddie. I'll take it down if it's a problem.

    Re: CAF update

I used digital calipers to measure the lug to lug distance as shown in your top picture, not from hole to hole.

It's not easy to find WW2 footage of Czech Air Force pilots and a lot of it is just small planes in a big sky. I've found about an hour altogether and nearly fell off my chair when I spotted the watch, what's the chances of that?

Don't be so sure... 51.5 doesn't mean much in this particular one because... look at how those lugs slop down! I think people with huge wrists are the ones that are most likely to not being able to wear it because those lugs are meant to go along the side of your wrist. The case itself is only 41mm.

There, I've just taken away from you the escuse not to spend 400 quid

Well Kutusov, I was of course pondering the very same thing ... :drunken: ... the lugs really ARE hugging the wrist downwards, aren't they? :|

Yeap! Here's what happen on a watch with similar hugging lugs... it's 45mm and with lugs it will probably be even more than the CAF... still...

    Re: CAF update

Kutusov you are quite right. I had a Zeno Retro Carre CAF and it hugged the wrist very nicely.

This is is the only pic I could find that showed it though, apologies it doesn't illustrate it all that well.

EDIT - have found a better one that shows it on the wrist.

    Re: CAF update

Here is my Longines and those lugs do hug the wrist. There should be no problems with the CDF looking good on most wrist.

    Re: CAF update

The Zeno lugs slope down a bit and everybody that has one say it wears smaller than the 52 or 53mm would make you guess. Even more so with the Precista! The angle of the lugs is much bigger than the angle on the Zeno. I really think you have to pay attention to the case size with this one, my usual rule that what matters is the lug to lug size shouldn't apply in this case given the shape. So no excuses guys!

    Re: CAF update

So, are you saying that folks with big wrists (7.5"" +) may not be able to wear the CAF because of the sloping lugs?

No, if you look earlier in the thread you can see Eddie wearing the CAF with 8inch wrists. So I think they'll be fine.

I'm not saying exactly that... What I'm saying is that I suspect people with smaller wrists will have potentially less problems wearing it than people with bigger ones. But you'll have to be a beast of a man not to be able to wear it!! Eddie has a pretty big wrist and the CAF suits him just fine!

I think it's only King Kong that has to stick with his Zlatoust Vodolaz for a bit more

I have a 6.75 inch wrist and have worn the original and the fit was great, this is one of the larger watches I am looking forward too. Strangely enough the one watch I had trouble wearing was the prs-18, the edges of the lugs sat right on a bone on my stick like wrists.

A 27 second video of the CAF. Please don't expect too much, it was hand-held and the battery was on its way out (I should have blown the dust off as well).

    Bollocks Eddie!

That video is a proof of the fact that the CAF indeed is something else. Truth is ever since the PRS-20 got announced nothing I´ve been waiting for something that would surpass it. I think that time is now.

    Awesome work.

I thought that I'd read somewhere on here that Eddie had got a couple of hundred movements for the CAF, though I could be imagining things.

I have 148 of the CAF in my possession with another 52 on the way. I've also put out feelers for more movements and if I can't get more of the AS1130, the Unitas 6425 is a perfect substitute.

As I'm a newbie round here....when a new watch goes on sale, is there usually a massive bunfight and then everything crashes or is there an orderly queue?

It very much depends on the watch and whether it's a production model. For example the the first 50 SBIII watches had a chronometer grade movement in them, I got confirmation of order in less than 2 1/2 mins but didn't get one. However others have taken far longer to sell out - example is the Sewells or the PRS29A&B. not many guarantees are given but a production model like the SBIII will have replenishing stock dependant I guess on sales. The SBIII GMT had 50 and they went fast with no guarantee of new stock. Limited editions go fast.

My guess is that there are 147 (marmite is a very wrong word, but its certainly for some and not others) with poss abnother 50 and more if movements can be sourced - therefore they will not go in 30mins, but I wouldn't count on them being there in a month. I'm sure it drives Eddie's system nuts but if you put in 1,000 into Qty it will tell you that there is only stock of 73 etc...

You're hooked after that SB3GMT

I really hope, and I'm sure that, it's a success for Eddie and it will be a match for the PRS-20.

I regard the CAF as a replacement for the Italian, which although I loved, was just too big for my wrists.
