My favourite case design. Angular and mostly unadorned, and extremely comfortable. Yes, it's a B&R, but it was once a Sinn, so that's OK then ;).

The new BR02 phantom is lovely!

They're also running a competition on their facebook page (june 1-17) to win a br02-92.

The same old people here bang on about them being fashion watches etc - its all a bit boring really!!

Some thoughts on Bell & Ross

I believe the idea of this brand was based on two French designers degree work.
(One of my colleague was school mate of those guys and told me the story, but I can't remember exactly)
I'm not a big fan of their watches, but I think the job they have done as a new brand is impressive.
I really appreciate Sinn for their technology, quality and style. Bell & Ross is a bit too fashion for me.
The "borduhr" idea is great, no doubt. But I just can't take it seriously seeing on a pilot.
I think this piece is way too big and heavy to wear in real situation.
Otherwise if you pay enough, the army can issue whatever watch you want advertise today IMHO.
You just have to find the right country or space agency (see Fortis with Russian Star City or Hungarian Air Force etc.)
Anyway the points you can criticize on the brand you could do on others as well.
All together, I have no problem with Bell & Ross.
The only thing what bothers me if someone has one and thinks this is the most serious military stuff you can get....

Re: Opinions On Bell & Ross

There's a thread around here about de-badged watch dials. A few have expressed preference for simpler branding that just features the logo, not the name - a few brands do this already. Here's one they made earlier:

Some "Functions" had the name either side of the ampersand, and some didn't. I'm not sure which came first.

Me too, to the extent that they are

overpriced - yup, as all premium Swiss brands are
fashion watches - yup, no-one needs anything more than an entry-level Casio. Everything else, if you think about it too hard, is just gravy.

Could not agree more regarding overpriced; but only at list price; but then they tend to be sold off at considerable discounts through the usual channels  like everything that is overpriced...gets overstocked...

I'd like to know which usual channels these are; I've love a Space 3, but no-one has them and those that do are hardly discounting them. It doesn't help that B&R recently discontinued them...

Case, bracelet, dial and hands....that looks like a Swatch to me.

I haven't yet seen a (non-sponsored) pilot wearing a B&R. I've seen Omega, Rolex, Breitling, Seiko, Citizen, Casio....but never a B&R and come to think about it, never a Bremont. I think that says something about a manufacturer who claims to make aviator wristwatches.

Better go out of business, then, since one person who doesn't like the brand hasn't seen a pilot wear one

Or are watch companies only valid if pilots wear them? :?:

You may be right; perhaps pilots don't wear them. Astronauts do, though:

I can find a few pics of pilots wearing B&R and all the mil pilots wearing Bremont aren't sponsored so what's your point, that most people have heard of the other brands?

I find it all rather artificial but it doesn't stop people who own other brands doing it. So crack on :)

I really liked b&r until I saw their death from above piece.... it's funny how one really bad watch can ruin an entire line for me. :?

Well we can't all like Rolex/Omega/Seiko that would be really boring! I love tge airborne and they've released a new efition of it this year: brushed case with aged strap which IMO looks seriously nice!

I'm not so keen on the bigger diver and pilot watches, but rate the Hydromax and Type Marine and the not-often-seen Geneva range. Admittedly they seem a tad expensive new and they're rarely seen on the used market otherwise I'd probably have one on my wrist

    See borrowed pics below.

It does tend to show which way B&R is going having thrown off the "shackles" of the last of the ex-Sinn designs. Personally it's not the direction I'd go in, aside from Vintage line perhaps (and ignoring their very, very high price tags) so any B&Rs for me will be old ones, bought used.

Personally I love mine, think they offer a different choice from the run of the mill, Omegas, Rolex, Ect they all look very similar.

Now B&R they are different people notice them and most like them, expensive yes and wish they were cheape then I could own more

Re: Opinions On Bell & Ross

We have to remember that the OP was asking on impressions of the brand, and we all know that its like religion and politics! Everyone will disagree at some point of other. ;) My guess is that those who are calling them 'fashion watches' just cant afford them. :bigsmurf:

IMO Yes they are a bit over priced for the type of movement that they have, but I like them so that some dont have too. :P

The picture Piers posted of the new coming 02 Carbon/phantom is on my to be tried list.

Re: Opinions On Bell & Ross

I do keep coming back to this thread and thought the following: If you forget all the heritage and Richemont launched Panerai as a branded watch based purely on the design alone without any Rolex, Italian Military links to rely on, wouldn't it provoke a similar reaction to this B&R debate?

  27. #77

Re: Opinions On Bell & Ross

As in the B&R case I have always felt that the "new" Pams also is overpriced and more are a fashion watch/brand
but again we all don't have they same angel, and some Pams do buzz me a bit 8)

  28. #78

Re: Opinions On Bell & Ross

B&R? I certainly like some of them.

Why oh why I let my Space 3 go is a matter of regret to me:

The Hydromax proved to be a great hit with one of my models, she declared it was "far more wearable" than my usual dive watches and also that it was "well cool"!

Have to say there's not much in their square-faced range that appeals to me though.

Out of my watched my Rolex GMT and my B&R BR03 steel gets the most wear. I love the look of the BR03. Very different looking and with a soft leather strap very comfortable looking. I like unusual looking watches and i think the BR03 fits the bill.

The only b&r I've owned is te vintage 123 with beige dial.
I very much liked it, and to be honest had I not been s'mores with a terrible GMT addiction I would have kept it.

Real quality and such a classic look.

You can keep the square ones.

I really like the BR02 & BR03 lines. Just got an 03-94 from the forum and really pleased with it. Wears very big though, for a 42mm, and I'm a fairly big guy. The larger BR01 range looks ridiculous on my 7.5" wrist.

Very, very cool. I don't know of any other modern [s:2oi6yg9u]toys[/s:2oi6yg9u] luxury watches that have a completely retracting crown and the inset pushers are nicer than screw-downs (although they were better still when made in rubber):
