Which particular Oris is this? It looks like a BC3 of some sort, but what exactly?
    It's a BC3+
This is the one with 100m WR and a screw-down crown.
I can't remember if it's a 40 or 42mm case diameter - I have not got it with me right now.
The case diameter is a little larger than the 50m BC3.
Pretty sure this one is not made now.

That looks like a Sinn Tegimented bracelet to me. I don't know if it's the same picture, but somebody was selling a DA36 in SC recently, which had a Sinn Tegimented bracelete modified to fit.
Looks like a SBIII bracelet to me... Which would be the first one I've seen fitted to a Damasko. Otherwise it'll be a Sinn. Or possibly a genuine Damasko bracelet which are of course common as muck.
It's a bead blasted SB3 bracelet recently purchased from Ben (Burnside).
I think he had this blasted to match a Sinn, but I find it pretty damn close to a DA36.
Colour is not 100% but pretty close.
The SB3 bracelet is one of the best in my opinion, and this combo works for me.
Of course it's not as hard as the bullet-proof Damasko case.

That was easy... Seiko "Glossy Five" SNZH55K1

I have not had any other watch in my Hand that deliverd that kind of perfection feeling for less than $200. :D

I think I'd go for this one - quite posh enough to be worn with a suit and at 200m water resist it should cope with a bit of toe dipping down the local lido - Oh! and you'll get plenty of change from £500 to spend as you wish :drunken:

    That's a nice choice.

I always wondered about the bracelet on these, does it feel cheap? I've never had one in my hand and sometimes they can be got for a very good price.

The bracelet is pretty good quality IMO - however their such finger print magnets I sometimes (only sometimes) wish both the watch case and bracelet were a satin or brushed finish rather than highly polished.

As some others have already stated, i'd go for a Sinn 556.

It's has decent WR at 200m, it is a 'proper' sized watch (not oversized as some watches are which is fine if worn in rotation) and incredibly accurate. It wears as well in the office as it does casually. Totally recommended.

£500 on the nose for this Colt II auto on a pro II bracelet

This is currently being worn by WBO light heavyweight champion of the world Nathan Cleverly (look out for it next time he is on the telly  )

I took it off and gave it to him the night he won the world title as I promised him for years that he would have a watch off me if he ever became world champion ( and would never go back on my word)

I enjoyed it whilst I owned it

My choice would be either the Casio GW2000BD-1AER http://www.casio.co.uk/products/timepie ... 00BD-1AER/ so much for your money, plus decent looking & not like other G-Shocks, also great for everyday use. Here's mine

Or the Steinhart Ocean which seems a lot for your money http://www.steinhartwatches.de/index.ph ... 3&Sel_ID=9

Re: If you were limited to one watch under £500

something different, a bit less diver..mido commander on a mesh (a flat one, is rigid)

it is 50m WR (mine passed 2 atm), so no real diving, but you can snorkelling with it. i did wakeboarding and survived well. silver dial works better on tanned/dark skins, darker dial are available

monocoque case, timekeeping well within cosc spec (consistency is good and much better than 7s26), should be about 550e new (not the LE model, no longer available)

else, eddie's 50B, but you have to source one used and is thick

Picked this up on SC last week. At the target price of £500, it's hard to think of a better watch..

    Damasko DA37.

As the OP, I actually got a watch last week well under the £500 budget, and it's not something that has been mentioned on this thread yet...

However, I can't show it to you as my wife has the camera with her in Crete!! :(

    Looks like a SKX007 with a SKX171 dial, or a SKX171 with a SKX007 bezel.

Re: If you were limited to one watch under £500

My last two buys have been Seiko 5s. The value for money is insane. Hopefully I'll be getting a used Sinn 556 or UX for a good price during the summer. But when it comes to ONE WATCH, then it's hard to know if I should go big or small. Small watches (like the 556) always feels to small and over 42mm (like the UX with 44mm) always feels a little to big for an everyday watch.

Re: If you were limited to one watch under £500

I've only had it a couple of days, but I'm very impressed with my Hamilton Khaki automatic, the 38mm one.
"I forget who it was that recommended men for their soul's good to do each day two things they disliked ... it is a precept that I have followed scrupulously; for every day I have got up and I have gone to bed."

Re: If you were limited to one watch under £500

Ive been asking a very similar question on another post, i only added that i didnt want it to be a diver style watch.
After much research and advice from fellow WIS. My answer would be the infamus speedbird prs 22 non gmt, an absolute modern day classic.
Now the only decision is do I get a black dial or the ivory dial??????.

My first thought was: my Smiths PRS-29A. Or my Kemmner 007 LE .. but actually I've become deeply attached to my £43.something Argos G-Shock.

Re: If you were limited to one watch under £500

Probably the Seiko SARB017, great watch with looks all of it's own that can cope with most situations. I ended up selling mine as it felt like it filled a similar role to my Explorer but I've thought more than once about replacing it...

I like the Strela reissue. Can be had new for under £250, looks good with a suit or with jeans. A bit of retro style to it, manual wind, space heritage (well no less than a modern day speedmaster surely!) and not seen every day.

    Whats not to like!

Re: If you were limited to one watch under £500

    Hi

I would go for the Kemmner Octopus:

With a few strap options you can go and do everything.

    Bracelet for the posh look
    NATO for a jeans look
For those 2Km deep dives stick it on one of Eddie's rubbers

I have had my Octopus a few weeks now and it's kicked all my other watches into touch: Rolex, Omega, MKII even G-shock

    Thanks

Damasko. Bomb proof and looks class in any situation I reckon.. Maybe a little tool like for a suit but it wouldn't put me off.. :)

My inclination would be to go for either an SBIII, a Sinn or a Damasko, particularly if the watch had to be as adaptable as possible in order to serve a multitude of purposes. A diver falls short of that, IMO.

Maybe in the minority, but I've been hankering for one of those for a while. Love how the second hand shades over the second figures on the edges of the dial.

I forgot how much I like the look of those. Considered the chrono version a few months ago, but I think I'm gonna have to keep an eye out for the plain date version.

If I were limited to just 1 watch though, it'd have to be something vintage. (I.e. 50s/60s/70s.)

That is the 556, yes. I purchased mine used, so it was well below £500 mark. These come up on the SC every now and then.

I hope that within the next month I will be receiving one of these, for less than €500

Well, actually I have gone for the date version, but I cannot find a picture online limited to 800 x 800 pix

That'll do for me, unless I am allowed to buy used, in which case I will keep my latest aquisition.
