    1961 Issued Watches

    Hi All

It's my 50th birthday this year and to mark the occassion on the lookout for a Birth Year watch from 1961. Can anyone shead any light on which military models would have been issued in this year. I know the Smiths came about later in this decade, and then I think the Hamilton? But not 100% sure.

Any help would be most appriciated

    Thanks for looking

    Jarvis

There were no specific watches issued to the UK forces in 1961. At that point they would have been using existing watches (it is possible that the FAA got some Lemanias in 61 but they won't be marked as such). The Hamilton navigators came along in the mid 1960s, followed by the Smiths in 67, then the tonneau Hamiltons in 73, I think.
The only watch specifically marked 1961 that I know of is the Australian-issue Smiths DeLuxe; and they are rarer than a rare thing (9 known, I think).

This looks issued in 1961 but the chances of finding any are very slim.

Not issued, but how about a Sinn Anniversary watch? It'll be celebrating 50 years in 2011?

Congratulations on making the big 50 Jarvis!

Good luck too on finding a suitable timepiece to celebrate your milestone.

I was 50 last year and am still looking for a nice Royal Navy or RAF Lemania Chrono issued in 1960!

I am lucky enough however, to have a Smiths from 1961 and RABbit is correct, I know of only 8 other Aussie Thin Arrow Smiths from '61.

    Kind regards
