I will soon be looking to trade both my Balls, if that's any good, GMT and Aviator I should add. :D
Firstly, can I start off by saying this is in no way a negative post about sales, or aimed at anyone, or group of TZ'ers, or their families, or extended familes, friends, old school friends, ex-partners or pets.
Secondly, it is in no way a criticism of the wonders of SC, TZ, TZ'ers, or any of the above mentioned associates.
:D
I know times are hard and cash is in rather short supply these days. So I'm really posting this to try and encourage as many people to be flexible on trading up, down, sideways etc. It sometimes seems virtually every post in SC is a "FS" only these days...
I know some posters need to sell, of course, and some often trade other watches and then need to sell a few - and that is absolutely fine by me!
But given that money is too tight to mention, please do be as open-minded as possible with regard to trades, it's fun, keeps the watches moving around within the community, and hugely increases your chances of shifting a watch.
That's it really. Just a humble request to think about trading and be flexible. No need to flame me, I'm already half-baked.
Cheers,
TFB

yo tfb. historically i have always preferred trades - its alot more fun than straight buying and selling, and it also opens you up to watches you might otherwise not have cosnidered. but when times are tough cash is king and people have to sell to release some of the dough sitting in the watch fund for other more prosaic porpoises.
all the best

Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
I have traded many times on SC and with a little bit of flexibility and common sense over price, both parties can walk away very happy. I do appreciate that cash is king at the moment but considering trades can open people up to brands and watches not normally on the radar. Some bizarre watches have passed through my hands as a result of trades, most of them from tfb!
Now go back to SC and get trading. :) Have a good week.
Here Here!
To that end, I will be offering a combination of a nearly new Breitling Aerospace and a lovely '69 vintage Seamaster 120 "DeepBlue" for trade only.
Looking for a Rolex GMT II, but always open to offers of interesting interest.
Soon to be seen on SC, just for you tfb.
Actually, I do agree with you. Things seem very "Sorry chaps, no trades - need the funds on this one". May be a reflection of tougher times, but personally, i've spent me monies now, and it's great fun keep that WIS flame alive with some flipping.
.
They'll start trading when they cannot sell. :P
I am fed up with the SC. There are four new pages of it every day to every page in Watch Talk.
Me? I'm not buying anything until the prices get to about a quarter from what they are now.

I've never traded anything yet but have updated my post with a long list of possible trades.
The problem always seems to be that I rarely want what other people are offering (and vice-versa).
:)
Unfortunately my sole purpose in listing watches for sale on Sales Corner is to thin down my collection of watches to a sensible level, so it's unlikely that I'd put something up there without the 'no trades' stipulation I'm afraid. Don't mean to detract from the fun, but trading would defeat the purpose somewhat for me.
+1 on that, but maybe I'm just too picky?Originally Posted by PeterM

Perhaps there should be a separate listing for trades. Some forums do have them.

I thought they invented money so we don't have to trade. Much easier than finding what you REALLY want while having something the other party wants ;)
The problem is people aren't realistic.
If I'm offering a Tudor Sub on original bracelet at £1400, please don't value your Citizen chrono at £250.
I traded a couple of times recently, and it was fun, but in the end I just ended up selling what I got in trade as the itch I had wasn't scratched and I had to try to find those watches elsewhere. The idea of it is huge fun though as long as both sides are sensible.
Good point. I have a less than 1 year old PAM 24 and am considering putting it up for trade for a Rolex Sports model.
no problem with trading :) what do you have? :)
because watch collecting is more interesting than watch commentating...?Originally Posted by abraxas

I'd be quite happy to trade when I advertise my next watch, but I'm fussy in what I like so the chances of me finding what I want in a trade I'd guess will be fairly slim.

ps. Anyone got a Sinn Arktis they want to trade?!
Any "know nothing" can buy as many watches as they like if they have the funds.Originally Posted by gunner

SC is an adjunct to the watch forum not the other way around IMO.

Lol, look in the dictionary under "Know nothing". It says: "See Tai Mi Shu"
Well said that man. Spot on!Originally Posted by Neil.C
Yes... but you are very humble with it. :wink:Originally Posted by Tai Mi Shu

I don't really see the point in trades, its easier to sell the watch and then spend the money on another watch!

Plus all the other nice stuff about community etc.

...and a lot of commentating goes on in the SC, its just that the subject is actual watches that people in this community own. In general I find the most authorative comments come from those who own/have owned the watches in question.Originally Posted by Neil.C

I can get more for a watch thru trading than outright selling every time. Also, it's easier to trade a hard to sell watch ... and then sell the trade.Originally Posted by AndySquirrel

And when the trades offered are the hard to sell stuff? You know, because the owner is sick of being stuck with it because it won't sell...
There's always someone with money, and always another watch in "your" budget. Sell yours and buy "that one".
Trades always seem hard work
You can trade cash for anything.
I used to wonder why people asked for trades only, thinking "Why don't they just sell and buy what they want?"
However, I now think it can be preferable if you are not 100% sure you want to part with a watch unless you find something you really want?
That way you don't have to part with it unless you are offered what you want to replace it.
BTW I'm still open to trades for my Deville power reserve and SMP (modded) WDYH? Just haven't been arsed to keep bumping it lately.
:)
" I will soon be looking to trade both my Balls"
Please don't tell me i'm being immature, but come on, lol!
Yes... kind of misses the point of the original post and others on here though doesn't it?Originally Posted by Seamaster73

I'm with the OP on this one. I've not traded anything on SC yet, but I am on the verge of offering up a few trades, up or down it doesn't matter - just seems a bit more fun trading away in SC than straight purchases.
