    Classic Cars In Pictures

With the restoration of my Lotus Elan approaching its end I've had little else on my mind. I know a lot of you are petrolheads, but how many of you have classics? I would love to see some photos!

    Mine is a 1967 Lotus Elan S3 Coupe S/E.

Here it is right after the respray. It was red when I bought it, but originally it was yellow. This is Wedgewood Blue, which was a colour offered by Lotus in period.

And the freshly rebuilt engine going in next week. 150bhp on 95 octane; not too bad for a 40 year old 1.6!

Yes very nice. I love that period blue. Good choice and a change from the more usual yellow! 8)

Here is my little classic. Bought it when I was 16, had it 15 years now :) Dates to 1962, and not so many of the coupe's around these days...

Different forums (fora?), different values, different attitudes. Welcome from people 'on the ground' has been good on both.
    Sorry, a bit off topic.

It's been full restored using period mods all except the engine. I've used bike injection and DTA management. 200bhp @ the wheels.

I used to have a Vitesse in the 80's. I couldn't afford to maintain it. The rotoflex couplings used to fall in bits... Oh and it used to break rocker arms but still ran on 5 cylinders until I could get back to the scrappy.

Absolutely gorgeous - I do have a soft spot for Heralds and I must say I have only ever seen one other coupe "in the flesh" as it were. Heralds have a nice turning circle too as I recall! :)

That's a beauty and my Birth year which is the type I really wanted as they have the better shaped bumpers, rear lights and front indicators.

    Re: Classic Cars In Pictures

Sold my TR6 last September after 10yrs ownership; have to admit I miss it. However, my rather small garage influenced the decision as it isn't big enough to work on the a car in comfort. Doing any maintainence was a real pain because of this; given a double garage I may have kept the car or swapped it for another classic.

Some nice stuff displayed on here......I particular like the Mk2 Jag.

My fist car was a 13/60 Herald Convertible and I always wanted the Vitesse MKII. Had a chance of one but the insurance was waaaaaay too much at the time. Still toy with the idea of getting one but they are so expensive now. Although that TR5 in your pic is one of my favourite all time cars - would love one of those if the numbers ever came in.....

Have an '85 2.0 Veloce Spyder (but no good pics)

Love that MKI Escort as well. Had a few MKII RS2000 in my time but never a MKI

Not the full fat CTR or BTR unfortunately, just on that has breathed on by RUF. Now delivering just shy of 300bhp - enough for me. The RUF 18" Speedlines, Aeropack and suspension just make it a bit more drivable if a tad more uncomfortable :D

If I ever win the lottery would have it made into a BTR 465 Bhp while I ordered my CTR 3. Oh to dream :drunken:

Gorgeous, glad/shame it wasn't on SC. I`d be in even more debt..... what engine did it have ? Any interior shots ?
Always had a soft spot for VeeDubs since going with my old man at the age of 7 to pick up a brand new 1500 Beetle.
I remember the reg and often fantasise about seeing it come up for sale if it hasn't been scrapped.

    Re: Classic Cars In Pictures

I knew we'd get to see some beautiful cars :D A real eclectic bunch too.

I used to live in the States and had a '68 Oldsmobile 442. Drove it down the coast from Seattle to LA in 2001. I loved it, but it was a pig of a car and handled like one. So when I moved to the UK I got a Mini Cooper S as a complete polar opposite to the Olds. Keeping up with the rust on that thing was a full time job, so when I rolled it down a hill in the North York Moors I decided to fulfil a dream and get the Elan.

So many lovely Karmann Ghias, but I rarely ever see them on the road. What gives?

I did see two lovely pre-73 Beetles on the road on Saturday. One of them seemed quite highly modified.

My Lotus shares the garage with my father-in-law's '57 AC Ace Bristol. A stunning car.

    Here's the current fleet:

1988 924S (stripped-out, track suspension, adjustable dampers, brakes and some other stuff):

1967 MGB GT (130 bhp 1950cc engine, 5-speed 'box, cage, uprated everything else):

1958 Healey 100/6 (mostly fitted out now, lots more aluminium in it now, uprated engine and 'box going in this month, should be back on the road in April/May)

1998 MX5 1.6 (currently standard but off to BBR for a 210 bhp turbo conversion):

    "A man of little significance"
