Thread: How tight to you wear it ... ?

How tight to you wear it ... ?

I'm not being fattist, but I really dislike seeing a tight watchstrap on a fat wrist ...

I' ve got skinnyish wrists, and prefer my watch to be on the slack side - so that I can spin it reasonably easily, but I can't understand why some guys cinch theirs up tighter than an old jubilee clip on a leaky hose

Or is it just me ... :|

No, I don't understand it. How can it be comfortable?

    I wear mine very loose. But that's because I'm a Fashionist isn't it. :D

That's probably two links too big and will fully spin on the wrist. But I like them like that. Anyway, Gok Wan said it was cool. I read it on here once.

Some wrists swell a little during the day, which can make a watch look tighter (well it is tighter). I don't like my watches moving around too much.
It's just a matter of time...

:D I like them tight enough to stay put but bracelets have to be looser than a strap but not to the point where you can spin the watch.

To answer the question I prefer mine a little tighter - I find them annoying when they are loose. I'm all for a bit of looseness and never have it anywhere near as tight as that picture, usually loose enough to be able to slip a finger between the strap/bracelet and the underside of my wrist. When my wrist swells it does get a little tight but never so tight that I can't move it around a bit.

    Tight is right!

Na, if I'm wearin an auto I tend to have them pretty firm on my wrist.

Battery watches can spin as much as they like. I have at least one link I could live without in every one of my quartz bracelet watches!

I'm definitely in the tight camp.

I can't stand having a watch that moves about on my wrist, it's a watch and not a bracelet and so it should stay put. Simple. I've had a couple of comments on wrist shots now saying I should loosen the strap, but I find it perfectly comfortable that way.

    Similar to the OP.

Loose enough that I could probably spin it round, but it wouldn't do it of it's own accord.

A tightly fitted watch looks unnattractive.

If at the end of the day, your fingers are not purple and you still have feeling in them, then your strap is to loose....

Loose - I can also usually turn the watch to the underside and back aroudn again on my skinnyish wrists - between 7 to 7.5 inches. I cannot stand it tight or making an imprint on my skin

Re: How tight to you wear it ... ?

That is one ugley picture. I wear mine looser, but not as loose as the fashion boys in NYC.

Just normal, where it doesn't spin, or cut off my blood.
One of my pet hates is a watch so loose, that the wearer has the face, facing downwards!

Agreed - see so many people on the tube who could do with a few links taken out - I might start offering a mobile service! ;)

On second thoughts that might not be such a good idea :blackeye:

Not tight, but not so loose as to spin around or move about too much

Loose enough to be able to squeeze a forefinger between strap and wrist, tight enough so that it doesn't slop around.

    Oooo errr! :D

    But yes.... ^^^ This!

I tend to wear straps a little tighter than bracelets, but never so tight so there is no movement.

As a skinny bloke with no fat on my wrists, I have to wear them slightly loose.....but no looser than necessary to avoid discomfort.

As to the modern fashion thing with watches wron far too big....... ......just don`t get it.

I like my watches to be 'welded' to my wrist, so much so that I think it has deformed that part of my anatomy permanently.
It's the price I've had to pay after years of never being without a watch on my wrist, day & night, 24/7. Now all say aaaaaaaah.

Heavy ones I wear slightly tight and lighter ones I wear slightly loose, which tends to be down to whether its on a chunky leather strap or not.

if while wearing the watch your wrist looks like a sand glass with the hour in the middle it's probably to tight....
personally i need to be able get my pinky between my arm and bracelet to feel comfy.

If it spins it's too loose (I'm talking watches here). If you can see link and or buckle/clasp indentations on your wrist it's too tight.

Love the new Rolex clasps, which I adjust a couple of times a day now that they're so quick and easy.

Tight enough that it doesn't slide down past that little bony bit on the outside of your wrist. I hate a watch that slides down and sits right against my hand. Mind you, I guess the people the OP refers to don't have a bony bit showing :D

Just tight enough to keep it in place. I don't like having to keep moving my watch back up my arm or spinning it round to see the time.

Well, it's got to be 'perfect' for me. Too loose and it rubs against the dorsum of my hand which I can't stand and if it's too tight, then I'm aware of it strapped on my wrist all day which again can be annoying. The perfect fit is when I forget the watch is on the wrist really. Because of that, too many straps and bracelets have come and gone no matter how nice looking they are.

Sure I read somewhere that it was better to wear tighter than loose from viewpoint of wear and tear to the bracelet.

I don't like my watch slipping down the wrist so I do wear mine fairly tight. I can just about sqeeze my little finger underneath as to not cut off my blood supply

    Actually, scratch that first post.

I just tried to spin my watches around on my wrist and they wouldn't spin.

I can fit a finger in between my wrist and strap/bracelet though so I'm about average according to most of the posts on here.

I was thinking about this the other day having seen lots of pictures in various threads of uncomfortably tight looking watches.

Personally I have my leather strap as tight as it goes, but I have pathetic girl wrists so its still fairly loose, can just about spin it round (6.5 inches of manly wrist!)

Like my pants I don't like it so tight that it marks, but not so loose that it keeps sliding down.

    Exactly 'Tight but loose'.

Re: How tight to you wear it ... ?

I get quite annoyed if I can't get a strap to that exact sweet spot where it's just loose enough that it can move up or down my wrist by about an inch (if I so choose to move it), but it won't move around of its own accord.

In practise that's about halfway between no slack and being able to fit a finger between the strap and the wrist. It also almost always happens to be exactly halfway between two of the holes on any given strap! I have some that just worked out exactly right and the rest I tend to keep a bit looser, because I do not believe the unnecessary tourniquet is a friend.

Generally, the best strap for a perfect tension is a tropical nato, but unfortunately my Timefactors one is slightly frayed and I'm too scared to wear it until Eddie gets hold of more stock!

Loose, but not so loose that I can turn it around.
