    1965 Issued

    Chaps,

After seeing the rather nice Hamilton on here, I thought it would be nice to have an issued watch from my birth year of 1965.

Placed an ad in WTB section ans starting to investigate and Smiths have been mentioned.

Having a troll around the interweb it seems Smiths became issued from 1968.

Is there any weel read chaps out there who could throw some light on issued models of this year (1965).

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

    Pitch,

1965 was a bit lean for military watch issues. Here's what I have listed.

    1. Hamilton 6B-9101000, but the issue year is not marked on the watch.
    2. Lemania Chronograph 0552/924-3306
    3. Lemania Chronograph 6BB/924-3306 & AM/6B/551

    Good luck in the hunt.

Thanks Terry that's a good starter.
Yes indeed the hunt will start and I am thinking it is not going to be easy.
Still, with patience and a fair wind something may turn up in 2011..

Many thanks again matey and Happy New Year.

I'd seen that too, sold before close. I'm a 65'er also and with an interest in Lemanias and issued watches in particular, with my favourite being the asymmetrics, I'll certainly be keeping a better eye out in future. Hopefully the buyer can get it running again to enjoy it to it's fullest. In the description it mentioned it was a 40mm case, is this true as I thought they were smaller...?

    Hi Mate,

It has shocked me how much something of our birth era is fetching. Afterall we are not that old............

I like the Hamilton which is up at the moment, but don't really want to spend anymore than £300ish.
I would like to be a Panerai owner by the end of the year and I think I can only push the wife so far :bom:

    Good Luck and Happy hunting

Cheers. Although not an issue watch you could take a look at the Bulova Accutron Astronaut or Glycine Airman which were both popular with pilots of the era and may be in that sort of price bracket.

Here is a link to a 1965 issued Lemania Assymetrical Chronograph I posted last year. It's the black faced one on the left. Extremely rare as it was issued as Air Ministry.
