Both new to me this month.
How's this for a case back?

both beauties! I love the dial on the vintage IDF issue.
Very nice, that 70's version is next on my list.

Just checked out your site... awesome collection. Did you have your Kontiki Super I re-lumed? Or did you get it that way?
Congratulations Peter.
What's the one on the left? Is that an external bezel that rotates internal markings?? Never seen that before -- looks interesting.
Hi Sunnie,
The one on the left is the current Kontiki, you're correct the internal bezel is rotated externally, moves on bearings, very smooth but lacks any sort of 'click', not sure about that feature but I've always liked this model.
Thanks,
Peter
Thanks for the info Peter. I won't say it sounds good because, without that augmenting 'click' to match the manual turning of the external bezel, clearly a reassuring element of sound is missing. However, it undoubtedly looks good; the functionality of having the bezel on the outside with the markings internally make for a really clean look without compromising ease-of-use.Originally Posted by Gunscrossed
Now that I know that this can be done, I wish that IWC had used this kind of system on their current Aquatimer which looks good but isn't anywhere as easy to use as the system in your Kontiki since it relies on turning a crown rather than a bezel; I've often wondered if IWC could have done it differently and I would never have thought of this if you hadn't posted your pics, so thanks again.

It's an interesting design, the watch is 200m water resist, I wonder how the bezel is attached?
This one came as part of a trade but I think the list price is quite high.
The vintage version keeps incredible time for an old watch.
hi CR
what is the history of the kontiki on the left? i have one just the same which is israeli navy seals issue from the mid seventies.
any idea where i can get a bracelet of an eterna super kontiki chronometer from 2000?
regards
Itai
is a civvie 'tiki as far as I can tell. There are no markings on the back, other than the middle "medallion" and a little fish stamping. I did get it from Israel though, via eBay. Eterna bracelets are hard to find... new or old!
The IDF rocks.
CR
thanx for the reply. very rare watches, i know of an ex israeli navy seal who has one NIB but he will hear nothing about selling it.

Congrats Peter

I wouldn't call it history ... more of a proposition. :wink:Originally Posted by Jon2050

At least, it's the home page of the KonTiki museum in Oslo, covering all of the trips of Thor Heyerdal. Maybe not so strange, they want him to be voted :wink:Originally Posted by abraxas
