Incredible, she is 53 years old. I saw the Bangles live in 1986 and already then I only had eyes for her.
I would almost say she is prettier today. :love10:
    She's certainly aged very well!

It's Mike Nesmith's Different Drum. Linda covered it.
I never knew that. Mike Nesmith - the only talented Monkee. So, a brilliant cover of a brilliant cover :)

Creedence Clearwater Revival: Heard It Through the Grapevine
Simply fantastic. Ten minutes of pure musical pleasure: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFtSDalGuuA

Marvin Gaye's version could be considered a cover as the song was first recorded by Smokey Robinson.

I also like the version by Gladys Knight & The Pips: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ah1cvL_ez-M

Katzenjammer do an interesting cover of Genesis - Land of Confusion:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaSSMQVybzE

Their song; Lady Marlene also started off as a cover but has been reworked beyond all recognition:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBs_QDNarrM

They're also an interesting version of a girl-band in their own right. My current favourite music and I'll be seeing them on UK tour this autimn (get in now while ticket prices are reasonable :D )

Used to like this funky cover a lot for the big brass sound and gospel harmonies. Somehow the guy even works in a flute cover of the mission impossible theme!
Marc Almond's big brassy cover of Madonna's Like A Prayer. Long but builds really well to the last 45 seconds of glorious screeching trumpet.

Been a while so here we go again!

Armagideon time by the Clash. Original by Willi Williams.

The Clash version is far more atmospheric IMO.

Compared to their large body of original work the Clash didn't do a lot of covers but their version of Junior Murvins Police and thieves is definitive.

    Cheers,
    Neil.

Enjoying Johnny Cash's last couple of albums in the car at the moment. His Mercy Seat is really awesome, the Nick Cave orignal is hard to listen to but JC has nailed it.

Some of the covers I really like,

erma franklin - sweetest feeling, great vocals on what sounds like Jackie Wilson's original backing track
madeleine peyroux did a great version of Bob Dylan's dont think twice very jazzy and laid back
Also loved D Train cover of Walk on by from Dionne Warwick
Knocks me off my feet by Luther Vandross is special and
Miles Davies' So what covered by Ronnie Jordan is very cool
but my fave of all is probably
Greendays' song Goodriddance, by my fave C&W singer, Glenn Campbell. Just better by miles to me

I also love a few already mentioned:
I second that emotion by Japan
    weller wishing on a star
david watts by the Jam is great fun too

Listening to Moonflower this afternoon, I'd forgotten Santana's superb cover of The Zombies' She's Not There.

Also, don't think anyone has mentioned Fariport Convention's Si Tu Dois Partir, a French translation of Bob Dylan's If You Gotta Go, Go Now; it was apparently translated by French students from the audience at a Fairport pub gig during the interval.

Great call, although she did change it massively. I'll add:

The Gourds cover of Gin 'n Juice

And the Clash's cover of Pressure Drop.

  37. #187
And seeing the Cowboy Junkies mentioned reminded me of their great cover of Powderfinger.

Totally agree about the Hounds of Love cover too.

Wild Horses - Flying Burrito Brothers

Fleur de Lys - Circles. Can't believe someone could actually better a '60s Who tune.
    New York Dolls - Pills
Blue Cheer - Summertime Blues. I like all the old versions, but there's something about the heavy fuzz attack of this one.
Pretty Things - Come See Me
    Thin Lizzy - Rosalie
The Action - Shadows and Reflections
Iron Maiden - Women in Uniform
Byrds - Satisfied Mind & Chimes of Freedom. The only way I want to listen to Dylan.
Trouble - Tales of Brave Ulysses
Yardbirds - Train Kept A Rollin'
    GBH - Boston Babies
    Black Sabbath - Evil Woman
Johnny Thunders/Steve Marriott/Phil Lynott - Daddy Rolling Stone. Three amazing musicians all sadly gone.
MC5 - Back in the USA
Dickies - Banana Splits. Hanna-Barbera on speed.
