Not sure if anyones posted it yet but Schneider TM – The Light 3000 its a cover of “There Is a Light That Never Goes Out” by the Smiths and was recently voted by Wire Magazine as one of the best cover versions ever recorded. thats not my reason for suggesting it, i just love this track and think its worth a mention.

Sorry - Its got to be the Johnny Cash cover of NIN "Hurt".
A torrid life, lived hard, all neatly compressed into 3:51.

The original's one of my favourite songs of all time. I've never heard this cover, so just checked it out on YouTube. While I love the ambience of it, which captures the sentiment exactly, overall it doesn't hold a candle to the original to me, sorry. The heavily treated vocals just lose the emotion, for me. Nice video though.

Here's the link to Schneider TM – The Light 3000 if anyone else fancies a listen:

I can appreciate that if you love the Smiths track it would be difficult to get your head around the vocals. I had heard the Smiths version and liked it but it was really this version that would be on my list of classic tracks. That said the original is obviously a stroke of genius.

Here's another cover track (well strictly speaking a remix) with speech synthesised vocals. Its a cover of Radiohead - Creep. Think its done tongue in cheek....makes me laugh anyway.

This is the uncensored video, a tad ruder than the MTV aired version :)

A couple of classics from the 'I'm Not There' soundtrack

"Dark Eyes" – Iron & Wine and Calexico
"Knockin' on Heaven's Door" – Antony & the Johnsons

In fact the whole album's pretty good

Police And Thieves by the Clash.....can`t remember who did the original.

Sweet Jane by Mott The Hoople.....original by The Velvet Underground.

I generally dislike cover versions but I like these 2. I`m sure I can think of plenty more....but there's a much longer list that I don`t like.

The Pussycat Dolls version involves a lot more bending over.

The Grateful Dead did some of the most notable covers ever. Many of these are now identified with the Dead rather than the original artist.

    A few examples:

"Samson & Delilah" (Rev. Gary Davis)
    "Not Fade Away" (Buddy Holly)
    "Morning Dew" (Bonnie Dobson)
    "Minglewood Blues" (Cannon's Jug Stompers)
    "El Paso" (Marty Robbins)

Incredible, she is 53 years old. I saw the Bangles live in 1986 and already then I only had eyes for her.
I would almost say she is prettier today. :love10:

    Your favourite cover tunes.

One of my favourite albums of all time is ...

    Through the Looking Glass

It's an eclectic collection of cover versions & their version of Strange Fruit is haunting & fantastic. Not to mention 'The Passenger' and the cover of Disney's 'Trust in me' from Jungle Book. Try it 8)
