Two very beautiful collections from Jason and Bluetinfloor (sorry Bluetin can't remember your name )
I think those are what most of us have in mind when we think about vintage Rolex.
Delicious. :D
A couple of years ago I made a determined effort to move my collection further back into the vintage era, still have a few more modern ones but these are my favourites and keepers.
The last matte dialled versions of submariner, submariner date and GMT, so 5513 sub (so called type 5 maxi), 16800 sub date and 16750 gmt - all from early 1980’s.
1978 5513 (type 1 maxi)
1977 GMT – nice orange patina
1967 metres first 5513
1966 Gilt GMT - still glows
1965 Gilt 5513

My first Rolex, a 1995 Non date Sub, bought to make a few quid-which I did! But what it did do was make me a Rolex fan :)
Having sold the ND Sub I bought this, a pink gold Turnograph (new model at the time and a lovely watch)... which I sold a year or so later to Alanski.
Wanted another Rolex soon after and saved up for an LV..which I also moved on as I wanted a GMT 11c
Then I bought this off Orange Peel and sold it to Dave in Wales 2 months later, only to buy it back off him  and sell it on again to walkerwerk   ( I now would like another!)
And now I have this :)
It is an illness you know?
Now we know why they're so rare!.. looks like I have the only one left that this guy doesn't own.Originally Posted by Chris_in_the_UK

Another nightime iphone pic.
Its my 1992 X serial T>25 GMT2 and my 2007 Z serial Chronometer Airking. Its a dark blue dial.
Love them both, and they compliment very nicely.
Id like maybe a SD and perhaps an EX1. Think that would do it. (Two tone Black dial Submariner could be on the long long long term list.
I can't make out the "s". Can you draw me a map please guys?Originally Posted by PeterM
Indeed difficult to see but in the etched Rolex logo the circle underneath the coronet has a little 'S' inside on its side that you can just see.Originally Posted by jrpippen

Yikes....
Was just looking through some old pics of watches that i've had for this thread... i had forgotten about most of them. This was taken during a heavy collecting period a few years ago
I still have most but not all.... i do miss them, but sadly no pennies

I really like it and the explorer type dial. The ring around the numerals has a really effective silver sheen that rounds it off nicely.
I wonder Neil why they were so popular in Canada? Perhaps something to do with the climate and the toughness of these watches- many Canadians then did outdoorsy things as they do now given the environment and so forth. Oysters would be ideal for that. Any other ideas perhaps?
Br,
AP.
They were made specifically for the Canadian market with the calibre 59's.Originally Posted by A.Pottinger

Here is a link they may be of interest.....

Thanks Neil - that's really interesting.
They're nice watches and wear much larger than their stated dimensions.

I'm in!
The one that started my journey into quality watches.
Originally a blue dial, I bought this dateJust in Hong Kong circa ’93 and wore it continuously for the next 7 years, then it went to SWMBO and she preferred the champagne dial it now sports. (Up for sale to anyone with < 7.5 inch wrist!)
I took this one in on behalf of a friend who wasn't wearing it anymore, put it on a nice strap and enjoyed it for a while before selling it on his behalf.
Bought this from David Duggan’s, it was in the window and just ‘called‘ to me.
Done well over 1000 dives and the overall condition is remarkable, given the work it’s done. Memorably, it’s pulled me out of the water when I snagged it on the side of a RIB, been sub-100 meters with me and I declined an offer of £5000 cash in a casino for it! Got a bit bored with the blue a while back, so now it’s black:
A Rolex GMT Master TT, bought off a friend to fund his mad-cap trip to Africa on a bike!
This SD came in via the SC and was met by approval of marine life all over the world:
GMT Pepsi/Coke, bought from the SC & sold to another member & friend; I know it means quite a lot to him.
And a bit of vintage:
This went to my IT guy as he fell in love with it, plus it was his birth-year (’56).
I think there's room in any WIS's collection for at least one Rolex: the next on my wish-list will be a DSSD I think.

FWIW I think the TT Sub looks great in black Ralphy.
Cheers,
Neil.
Thought that I'd quickly add the latest Kermit and give the thread a much needed bump.
Oh and FWIW Ralphy, I really liked the day/date :thumbleft:
some really nice pics there!!
Here's mine to date:
Starting off is my very first and still owned Rolex - a two tone datejust:
Next is the Daytona - now with Mr1973 - look after her Mike
Next, the SeaDweller, now with Ralphy or at the bottom of the sea somewhere
And finally, my current GMTII Ceramic - pic to follow
Only have the one (at the moment  ) and this is it -

Just the one these days:
Here's my first - 1989 tritium GMTII. Can't really be doing with it on the bracelet, so one of Eddie's splendid NATOs instead. Rather takes the edge off the bling.
my first (now gone)
then the Daytona i still have
and the 1675 (now gone)
Just a quick wrist shot while waiting for my food :-)
