Hi guys,
Yes I could search the internet to death, or just buy a Bremont
BUT, I'm looking for our members with good taste to recommend a chrono, as despite a full box, I am missing one.
I'm looking at ideally £1k spend. Used and from a WTB/SC will be the likely acquisition route.
Not a Sinn, Fortis, or Damasco for sure. Size wise, 40-42mm. Black main dial please.

I HAVE versions of the manufacturers excluded and want something different :roll:Originally Posted by docrwm
Your hands were not tied tight enough to stop you jumping on the keyboard with the first negative of the evening, so cheers for that
There was a stunning Ebel on SC a couple of months ago. Quite beautiful.
Speedie is the obvious answer I guess :)
I'd say a Zenith HW El Primero (on the left).
These are my two favourite chronos from my collection:
The Marathon CSAR would get my vote.

Failing that a Speedie or save some money (about another £1500  ) and try to find GP Evo 3. Simply the best.
If you cannot wait try for a vintage Heuer - not the moden Tag stuff or re-issues.
Or if you are happy with a 2 register chrono - investigate vintage Angelus (1950's) and try and get a Cal 215. This movement was used by Panerai in the Original Mare Nostrum - sweet :D

Just kidding, it's the Zenith Class El Primero: http://www.thewatchgallery.co.uk/Zen...atch-(ZEN-104)
Comes in 40mm or 45mm, but I think it's being discontinued as it's no longer on the Zenith site.
Why is it all the ones I like are out of budget :roll:Originally Posted by spluurfg
Carla is far too dear too. I only need half an hour and locally it's under £50, but thanks.
I got that puppy for £2000, really lucky occurance wandering into a WoS near Bond St. and finding a manager special.
Try the Bicester Village Tag Heuer outlet; they always have Zeniths at good discounts, and sometimes something you want.
The Tag outlet at Cheshire Oaks also has loads of Zeniths! But what you really want is a Tudor Chrono....I know of a nice one  :wink:Originally Posted by spluurfg

The Tag Carrera on the Sc is just over budget and is a great watch.
as others said, the iconic chrono for me is the moonwatch, which I bought. then you need a column/wheel chrono (prs-5 for a cheapish homage) which I finally bought (thanks Andy). then you need a zenith (my choice is the el primero striking 10) and possibly a breguet (optional). a moonwatch should be in your range, the only one of the group, I'm afraid
ps I didn't know that Carla existed and I like her very much. may I come with friends?
pps wasn't your collection complete before the ploprof and this chrono? :D
Speedy-wise, I only like the big one and find the lug to lug too big?
I'm allowed to swap :wink:Originally Posted by merloplano
i think it is 44mm, i tried one in wempe together with the AT and it was huge.
still, you are wrong and what you really need the lemania speedie (at a nice 41mm) :D (who said poll?)
look at here for some column/wheel

Baaaa  Seriously, for around £1K, its gotta be a Speedmaster Pro 8) You'll find its the one you always reach for.
......and you're always certain of getting you're money back with them :)
How about a strela? Well under budget.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
Has the TAG outlet returned :?: :?:Originally Posted by Ross Povey

I'd probably go for a vintage Camaro or 70's Carrera with that budget.
aqua graph tag.....as new condition
Maybe you just aren't a chrono guy?

Why don't you try out one of these as a Chrono taster - sweet watch at a sweet price.
I have absolutely no bias or affiliation with the following sales thread....

How about a reissue Autavia...
Bloomin 'eck, it's like the most active WTB post I've ever made
More offers than on SC.........
So far this thread has helped me to decide I remain wanting a chrono, but not one mixed into a tool watch at the same time ie. Tag.
So, dressier options being the Tudor type is winning through at the moment.
Thanks for the 'try before you buy' options, but I'm going to jump straight in, so any further suggestions welcome.
It was there on Sunday.Originally Posted by Enoch

Do you like the Max Bill Chronoscope? £1k new.
I think the Speedie Mark II is a bit of a bargain compared to the others in the range - plenty of change from £1k there.
Have you considered an X33 by any chance Steve ?
Go and finish your wine you :lol:Originally Posted by Chartman69
Surely an El Primero should be within reach with a few more quid and some patience. I'd would suggest a Speedy like mine but my chrono budget was half yours.
Zenith all the way if you're into 4 figures.
Fortis B42 Chrono, NEW :)
Sorted chaps, but you will have to wait and see the results in a post coming soon to a forum near you
I found out the hard way that I am not a chrono guy :(
