how do you insure your watches?

the mugging thread has me wondering - what's the best way to insure a watch or 3 in your opinion? (obviously a major collection requires a totally different kind of product)

Greenbee worked for me, in with my house insurance.

They allow up to £10k for a single item, and up to £20k valuables as standard, and you don't have to specify high value items.

They came in a lot cheaper than Hiscox for me.

A lot of people on here use Hiscox, they are meant to be fantastic for watches and jewellery, i used to use Marks and Spencers premium, again that was great and there will be a host of others, but Hiscox gets the most mentions.

I just wish i could get decent insurance, 2 burglaries and 2 attempted burglaries in a 12 month spell two years ago means i'm stuck with really rubbish insurance :(

House insurance has been best for me

Just took out home contents with NFU - covered anything up to 6.5k, including whilst out of the house. Only stipulation is a photo and valuation on anything worth over 1.5k new. Cheap as you like too.

I guess it depends on total and individual values, but I've always just had cover via standard home cover too

I also use Hiscox, they are not necessarily the cheapest but they are happy to insure your watches without having them named on the policy.

I keep meaning to phone rbs to ask them about insurance, anyone know if their policies cover such things ?

The PO is a named item on the contents insurance.

The others are of sufficiently low value to not require this.

Normally your home insurance will have a maximum figure they will pay out in the even of a total loss, eg flood or fire. If your wathes come within this max figure they will be covered. You will probably have to name items over a cirtain value ( for me 1500) and be prepare to provide proof of ownership.

The same standard policy will have a personal insurance value for when your out of the house, for accidental losses and theft. Make sure they cover you enough if your watch gets half inched!

Mine come under a military kit insurance, which is basically a standard home insurance package that covers kit I don't own but am issued by mod.

    house insurance

have all watches covered in the total amount, and £7.5k limit when away from home on my person , if lost or stolen

you dont have to pay that much more to get a policy that covers such things, just stay away from the cheaper end of the insurance market where they trim back all the options to give you the lowest price
