Well, put this one today (after a looooooooooooong time), the Hamilton Aviation chrono. 7753 movement running easily within COSC (+ 1 or so in 24 hours).
I once bought it in pretty much mint condition for 280 quid! :shock:
So, this is for sure my best buy so far (value for money). What's yours?

Omega Ti SMP, simple, efficient and has the look i like, a watch that i rate higher than some priced at twice, or even three times the RRP.
I often buy thinking I've got a bargain, but I can't remember actually making money on one when it came to selling it. Although I bought a G-Shock 5600 for £30 earlier today... Fingers crossed that's not a bad price.
14060 Sub I bought for £1400 secondhand about 4 years ago. It's been worn the most out of all my watches, and is now worth maybe 50% more than I paid for it.
Got a shocking discount on a new Fortis B42 Pilot Pro Chrono from an AD I knew. Wore it for 2 years (very carefully, mind you) then flogged it for £40 more than I paid! Not the intention to profiteer like that, but it went for market value and I don't feel too bad (it wasn't to anyone here).

A Seiko Sumo - got it new for sub £300, and loved it muchly.
Received a Seiko 007 in a a trade for not very much. Didn't know much about these watches but grew to absolutely love it. Moved it on which I regret alot. It's probably the best allrounder I've come across
A mint blue faced orsa monstrum also sticks in my mind. Although it was bloody massive and had to sell it for the sake of my wrists!!
Prolly my early 50's Seamaster Bumper I found in a junk shop in Brighton and the missus paid for for my birthday 8)
I bought my Seiko black Monster for 40pound, sure it was a bit of dings on it, but still count it as extremly cheap for what you got...
There aren't many good buys (in investment terms) in my watch history but just through longevity of ownership some have crept up in value as either they've become rarer or a more higher profile brand.
Quite honestly anything that is better than break even is a relatively good result for me.
My very first was a PAM 88 bought in 2001 as a part engagement present when Panerai's weren't that prominent on the UK high street. Paid under £2500 from WEMPE and I suspect is comfortably worth over £3k now second hand? But until I choose another wife then its a keeper!! :twisted:
A few years later I managed to eventually secure a Tag Carrerra Jack Heuer Ltd Ed for around £1200. Seemed quite pricey at the time but suspect value has increased 40-50% by now?

£40 for the watch (brand new from e bay) and a tenner for the strap from Cousins.
Original mint Laco B Uhr on the strap, in the original mint box. Paid the DM equivalent of 10 Euros for it but sold it an hour later for the equivalent of 600 Euros.

Edit: Sorry, posted the wrong picture... There, fixed... I had a picture of one with western characters dial. The one I got is in much better shape than that one on the photo, it's almost new.
Too many to list or I wouldn't have bought them - most full price Rolex I bought from my AD felt like the best by at the time :)
Although for wear I'd say my white gold daytona - it gets worn more than any other and I'm sure if I worked out price per day's it has got to be much better value than all but a few regularly worn cheaper watches.
Best recent buy - I bought my first ever Breitling off the forum - took a chance - the price seemed right, I liked the look and I wear it at least once every week.
Cash wise - I bought a Rolex a few years ago for the full asking price that is worth about 8-10 times more than I paid for it.
It's just a matter of time...
the speedbird 3 has got to be the best value for the money i,ve ever had :)
in terms of VFM, i would say my blue ti samurai and pvd prs4 have given me the most enjoyment, picked up both of them from sc ..

When I bought my first "proper" watch (Breitling SuperO Chrono) back in 2005, I didnt know much about watches, but I had read on another watch forum that you should always ask for discount, so I duly said to the sales woman - "so, what discount do I get" or something equally utterly stupid and half-hearted, but she spoke to the manager and came back with 23% off - I literally hardly even tried and I certainly didnt haggle!
Couldn't believe it, still cant. And it runs perfectly 5 years on... Been a daily wearer/beater and could sell her for at most a £400 loss (not that I would ever, ever sell it!) - not a bad return on 5 years of daily wear!
Also, bought a MINT B1 on here couple of weeks ago for what I thought was an absolute bargain given it's condition, full set and recent full overhaul at Breitling. To be honest, I think these (in any condition) go for way less than they should these days...
My best buy is an IWC Ingenieur 888 from 1969 with the original papers. Very hard to find. I saw an advert in a paper and bought it instantly. The price was very low.

Seiko BFK. Can't believe how accurate, well made and comfortable they are and excellent value for around £150.
sm planet ocean -casino royale edition -minter..all boxes certs everything.. did deal out of ebay with seller and got it for 900 when ebay sellers are asking and achieveing over 1600 easy ..
sold on for handsome profit and with profit purchased sm 300m auto- this was only 2 weeks ago so Im still smiling !

Dont want to burst your bubble, but one like that sold on ebay yesterday I think for £1200. The watch looked new, and the owner claimed it was unworn.....
Picked up this nice Longines Ulrta Chron off ebay for £40 a few years ago. Crappy picture and the guy thought it needed a new battery..... :D
Best buy in bargain terms was this Casio Protrek.
I was in Tesco picking up some camping gear that I'd ordered online, and while I was there I glanced at the (small) watch display. One big watch (Protrek) stood out amongst all the others.
I asked the assistant if I could try it on, hmmm fits nicely. "How much is it?" I ask as there's no hang tag to be seen. "Not sure" says the assistant and goes off to find out.
She comes back a minute later "It's £22.50, but it's the last one and I can't find the box"
Hmm it must have taken me at least half a second to say "I'll take it please".
Cracking watch, and £150+ in most online shops.

Can't see any of my watches depreciating but after all my searching have settled on a 14060M as favourite. Should do for the next twenty years until my son asks me for it. Then I'll have to start wearing the SD.
Mine has to be my Breitling Orbiter Emergency for a number of reasons:
1) It was my grail watch.
2) When I got it it was a bonus that it was a limited edition with part of the Orbiter balloon.
3) I saved £800 (about a 30% reduction on the retail price 10 years ago) on buying it in the UK by popping over to Geneva where I got it at a discounted rate, plus had a weekend break staying with friends and the flight over had only cost £140.
In actual value for the amount of use, probably my Seiko 7A38-7270. I paid £123 for it (I think), have owned it for 23 years, worn it for 10 of those, and it's still highly presentable after a clean up last year. Nothing else I still own from 20+ years ago is either presentable or big enough to still be fashionable.
Best value for money in terms of bang for buck is probably another Seiko, this time the SKX007. At £120 the build quality is better than many more expensive watches and it is one of the few watches anybody has ever commented on at work (they thought it looked really expensive lol). My Speedbird III is also amazing VFM.
Keep an eye on the Orients also, those are very well built and I think there aren't so many people after them like with Seikos. Nice blue Mako on SC at the moment if anyone hasn't take it yet. I already have a blue dialled Orient or I would junp on that one! Maybe a big black Mako in the future...

I agree, I was very tempted to have a bid, but having bought two other watches recently put me off....
I think its the prettiest of the modern carreras that I have seen.
