Hmmm... not so sure I'd call it "poor". These people should see the really poor.

However, this made me laugh out loud:

One woman reveals that she has to choose between toothpaste or toilet rolls when she visits the supermarket.
I know what I'd choose....
I'm not as think as you drunk I am.

    Bloody Daily Mail as usual.

People live way beyond their incomes & then whine about it when it goes wrong.
"Thatcher's Children", eh? No doubt somebody will be along shortly to spin it the other way.

    I liked this:

Chartered psychologist Dr. Jennifer Gomborone treats many patients at her Harley Street practice and finds that the recession has caused dreadful new anxieties over money for the upper and middle classes.

‘I’m dealing with a vast number of professional people who have had to cope with major changes and haven’t known how to go home and tell their families that they can’t provide,’ she says.
Hmmm... bet she's not dropped her fees for them though.

I've not got a lot of sympathy for the people who have put themselves in this state - I have, however, lots of sympathy for those who were doing fine until they were made redundant or lost their job through no fault of their own (Been there, done that - don't want that particular T-shirt again).

    Cheers,

Charlotte says she still eats at restaurants with friends, but prays they don't ask her to go Dutch
She's quite happy to skank off her friends.

What I can earn by writing making the occasional short film brings in just enough to cover the rent. For many articles I write, I earn no more than £250 and often struggle to make £500 a week — just over what my rent is.
Ignoring the fact that this sentence doesn't make sense to me, she could get a proper job.
"I forget who it was that recommended men for their soul's good to do each day two things they disliked ... it is a precept that I have followed scrupulously; for every day I have got up and I have gone to bed."

Load of whinging if you ask me. No money? Work harder. Still no money? Stop spending it on parties / restaurants / handbags ya daft moron.

Please, this woman needs to wake up and get a life. There are people in the world dying of thirst and hunger and she's worried about finding two grand a month to rent a flat in London. Here's good idea number one: Move out of London you silly bint, if you can write for a living you can write anywhere you want provided there's a mains supply and an internet connection for your laptop.

    Sheesh, I despair.

I accept that people (oxygen thieves) like this exist, but why on Earth is it a story?

Re: So real and true article in many ways

It is hard to be sympathetic when she's saying that she goes without some things to keep being able to go to expensive restaurants and cafes. Just don't go out if it's really THAT bad!

She also said she'd go out if invited and dreaded being asked to split the bill equally... hang on... I've always assumed that would happen as a matter of course. Be nice to have friends where it'd be assumed they would pay...

There's not many people who aren't feeling the pinch, some more than others. An article like this is a little galling to say the least.

I saw this yesterday and almost had a fit. It makes me so indescribably angry that I'm barely capable of passing further comment, other than to say that I hope that the comments from Mail readers (of all people) make her realise how badly she comes across and what an error of judgment she had in agreeing to write this article.

It's a bit of a bugger when you can only afford Moet instead of the usual Bolly.

So let me get this straight?

It's too embarrassing to tell your friends your a bit skint when you go out for lunch.
But it's perfectly fine to tell the whole world via a huge national newspaper????

I guess they must be paying her £250 then???
