Which of my watches (listed in my signature & in the photo below) would you choose for a three week holiday in Florida, bearing in mind;
1) I have never taken more than one watch on holiday before
2) I don't want any customs hassle should they find a second watch in my bag
3) I don't really swim, but it's likely I'll go in the sea maybe twice but nothing "rough" and no diving
4) I don't dress smart and so I don't specifically need to appear dressy I.e. No plans to go to any fancy restaurants or wear a suit
5) despite being a bit of a scruff I wear all my watches equally
6) the Rolex GMT is new and likely to be my main daily watch
7) two time zones are desirable
I'm thinking Rolex GMT / SuperOcean + G-Shock Riseman, but maybe the Tag is most versatile... But what about the B1??? but it's only WR 50m... Can't decide!!!

I'd take the 5600 and not worry about having a gun put to my head ;)
Yes but WHICH one to take lol!!!Originally Posted by Chris_in_the_UK

Go for low radar signature - G shock :)Originally Posted by ach5

The answer - GMT, daily wearer and new so you'd miss it :wink:Originally Posted by ach5

Logically, the tag is perfect in every respect - it's even "Miami" in colour! I'm just searching for reasons to take the GMT!!
+1, why risk taking 2?Originally Posted by Chris_in_the_UK
DON`T take the Rolex, if you get those polished centre links badly scratched (swimming, walking, messing around whilst pissed etc...) you'll not be happy .
Paul
Rolex without a doubt - you know you want to!
I usually take my Explorer 1, not flashy and easy to refinish if it gets scratched. Easy to read too.
Paul
I'd take the GMT or B1, both worthy contenders (although 3 weeks is a long time with just one watch :? )
Look at your travel and home insurance to see how much you're covered for, factoring other things such as cameras, camcorders, jewellery, laptops etc and make sure you have enough all risks insurance to cover the watch in question. I did the same calculation when going on holiday in May and came to the conclusion that I had to take an inexpensive watch. My PRS-50-B and G-Shock both enjoyed the trip. Practical I know but insurance companies are picky when you try to claim over their limit.
I suppose you have to take the speedmaster if you are going to visit Nasa at Cape Canaveral!
Good point re: insurance. Hadn't thought of that.
G-shock it is then!
Maybe you'd want to wear the speedie at Cape Canavaral?
Rolex GMT - no excuses!
Remember you bought it to wear it didn't you plus its GMT as in travel etc!
No brainer IMHO!
“Don’t look back, you’re not heading that way.”
I'd take the riseman and marvel at the multi zone atomic sync and barometer/thermometer functions. The altimeter won't be so exciting as Florida is dead flat.
Put the rest of the team somewhere safe and miss them loads while your away. It will be like Christmas when you get back.
As its been 100F or thereabouts lately, I'd suggest that you take one that isn't black, isn't on leather, and is waterproof.
Take the Rolex :D
Take your favourite, then you won't be tempted to buy another.......
If you are going to do any Disney parks you can save yourself a lot of time, hassle and queuing by buy the latest edition of The Unofficial Guide to Disney.
I have been a few times and it is without doubt worth buying well before you go, read it and follow the plan, it works!
Don't expect it to be a relaxing experience.
Steve, thanks for that. We dont do the theme parks - we go to Florida every year but we stay very much away from the tourist scene! Have never been to Disney land, though I have been to Kennedy Space Centre (Center - whatever!) which doesnt count!!Originally Posted by Steve748
GMT for me.
It's just a matter of time...
Take the Rolex.
I would rather take it with me than leave it at home and some thieving bastard break into my house whilst away and pinch it. :x
And you could constantly check the timekeeping :wink:Originally Posted by gee-whizz

Grrrrrrr! ;-)
Are you all daft?? A brand new Rolex as the only watch for a 3 weak holiday involving sand, sea and God knows what? It's the most expensive watch on his collection and Miami isn't exactly the safest place if you stray from the more crowded areas...
Maybe it's just me being paranoid, don't know but I would be a lot more at ease with the 5600... no worries about it getting scratched, cracked, stolen (and what might happen to me during a stick-up), etc, etc... And something I don't want during a holiday is being worried.
Ok, you can now demolish all my points
BTW, enjoy your holiday!!! :drunken:
In Miami the GMT IIc is small fry - gold bling all the way baby.....Originally Posted by Kutusov

I agree and I have already ruled out the Rolex.
It'll be the yellow Tag alone or possibly backed up with a g-shock.
As much as I'd like to take my best watches (could't think of a better opportunity to wear my nicest pieces than on a nice holiday) it's just not practical... As Chris says parts of Miami are very wealthy and blingy so the rolex would be nice to "keep up appearances" especially in the more expensive parts/shops/restaurants etc etc... But I don't think I should risk it... I've heard storiesnof even room safes being opened ?by the maids or someone with a master key...
Thanks for all the input - really appreciate it!
No it's not... everybody is filthy rich there? That's like saying a GMT is nothing in London because all of the big-shots in the City... Seriously, I fear for the safety of the OP... it's not like he will be able to choose what watch to wear, so he might end up in some places where it isn't safe at all to wear a Rolex...Originally Posted by Chris_in_the_UK

Ridiculous..risk what?? take the watch, most hotels have a main safe at the desk for really valuable items. I've taken watches plenty of places as have many others without a problem.Originally Posted by ach5
Wear the Rolex and you will fit right in, take the G if you need a bang-about sports activity 'beater' but you will -imho and I have made this mistake myself in Miami- miss having a 'decent' watch on your wrist more than a little, especially if you -and it's inevitable trust me- go watch 'shopping' there.
Cheers and have a great vacation.
Joe.
Aaaargh!!!
I'm beginning to sound like a woman now, trying to decide which outfit to wear!!!
I had settled on the Tag, but the more I think about Miami, the more I think I will want the Rolex on my wrist!!!

What's the problem? Wear the Rolex.
Why buy an expensive watch and be too frightened to wear it?
Florida inc Miami is no more dangerous than any other big city in the western world.
After all it is a travellers watch (nothing to do with tarmac  )
Don't be a wimp.
Cheers,
Neil.
Wear the Rolex! It was designed for Pan-Am, so it'd be rude not to take it to America.
Miami and Florida in general is a holidays place. More relaxed and calm, with most of the people wearing shorts or bathing suits. It is not a place to show off your best watch. Probably nobody will actually notice it or appreciate it there. I would choose the g-shock. More practical and closer to the holiday spirit.
Well I think that we can all agree that none of us agree!!!
Probably best if you stay at home and time the GMT?
When you look long into an abyss, the abyss looks long into you.........
Well I did think that if it needs sending in for regulation, the three weeks in Florida would be a good time, so that might solve the entire problem!!!
It kept good time yesterday (+1.5s all day), but by lunchtime today it had gained 5 seconds, probably more by the time I get home tonight and check... bloody expensive watches! Every other day it has run perfectly, with grossly fast days inbetween. Weird!
FFS - step away, it's a watch, it's mechanical, it lives and will subtly loose/gain time dependant on what happens to it during the day (is it left unworn, worn, temperature etc.).
When you look long into an abyss, the abyss looks long into you.........
Slightly OT but what model yellow faced Tag is that?
Its the one i'd take btw!
Cheers, have a good un!
The GMT2c on a nice chunky 20mm rubber.
Done
draw names out a hat, flip a coin
It's a yellow faced Tag Aquaracer Quartz Chrono. Cant remember the model number off hand.
It has the best, most solid looking and feeling bracelet of any watch I've ever worn.
What?? What about the Rolex? It's shocking the first time you touch and feel one in the flesh isn't it? :wink:Originally Posted by ach5
INCLUDING the rolex. The strap on this relatively cheap watch is phenomenal!
  I know, it was shock and awe for me the first time I picked a Rolex up... I had already read somewhere about how they feel but I just couldn't believe it. Best (feel-wise) bracelet I've owned comes with a Pulsar and I'm not saying it's better (Rolex clasp is a piece of engineering just by itself) but it's a lot heavier and feels a lot more solid!Originally Posted by ach5
