I've owned dozens of VWs and sold my last Split Screen Camper about 13 years ago and thought I was done with them and concentrated on Porsches but somehow ended up acquiring this - planning to use it as much as possible in the Summer

Saw a couple of split screens at the recent Goodwood 74th Breakfast meeting - nudging 100k - amazing spec and refurb !!

This forum never ceases to amaze me!

Indeed, and they were very gracious with their time.

The more interesting cars were just on the other side of the far wall.....

That's my second choice and then the 22B. I really enjoyed the tour, can't remember the lady's name but had no idea what Prodrive's input was in so many different marques, Range Rover to McLaren P1.

They are a very impressive company. Hence I bought Colin McRae's scooby and some old AM racer as my new daily drivers - brum brum!!

Interesting. I have had several E92 M3's and loved them but also had access to a DB9 for a while which was also great. How does the Aston compare to the M3 in the real world, what do you miss about the M3 and what is more enjoyable with the Aston?

I had the e92 for 6 years and covered 60k miles in it. It's the perfect balance of power vs practicality; because my mileage is pretty low at the moment, it was costing very little to run.

Things I'll miss will be decent boot, folding rear seats, 4 seats, 420(ish)bhp, EDC, front parking sensors, iPod connectivity and German reliability

The AM just feels a bit more 'emotional' - it looks and sounds fantastic. It is slightly down on power and certainly less practical.

Definite case of heart winning over head.

Yes interesting you say that. I had access to the DB9 (looking after it for my uncle who lived abroad) at the same time I had my M3's and on paper and in the real world the M3 was a better car in every way. It was faster, the headlights worked, the nav worked, the bluetooth worked, my M3's were great but the Aston was just such an emotional car which always made me smile when I drove it and always attracted positive comments.

  12. #3012
Well it's tough to follow that Aston :) I did manage to get a few passenger laps around Donington last week in a V8 Vantage which was superb!

I bought this a few days ago, and am enjoying it immensely. It's an XF SV8, supercharged 4.2 putting out 410hp. Great chassis dynamics too.

I used to have a '88 325i convertible in dark blue, back when I lived in Los Angeles. It was the perfect car for there. I have very fond memories of driving on the twisty roads up Hollywood Hill with the top down.

I know E30 M3s are all the rage, but I'd really love a regular 325i coupe. For a while I was on the hunt for one, but gave up after seeing only really worn out examples.

I am/was a big E30 fan but most would have rusted beyond economic repair by now - it's only the pampered examples that are on the road these days and they usually command top dollar.

    Just passed MOT

Driving around Hollywood Hills in one sounds fun. I just made do with the Gloucester countryside, nice day for it.

I have just joined the SUV brigade, as I needed a bigger boot for the wife's mobility scooter and it is easier for her to get in and out of the car with it being higher of the ground.

I just picked up this Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring last week. I'm in the middle of adding a few 'personal touches,' as you can see. I bought a pair of silver roof side rails from the dealer that I painted black with PlastiDip, but I find I'll need the dealer's help to install them. I already applied PlastiDip to the rear emblems, but I still need to do the front "M." I have another black carbon license plate frame on order.

Awesome car for the money. I used to have the S Type R with the same engine. Hysterically fast!

    Enjoy.

I think that Jag XF is 510 bhp not 410 bhp if it's the Supercharged V8

Bonkers power but you can never have too much

It's definitely 410. The later 5.0 models were 389bhp for the N/A and 510bhp for the supercharged (in the XF-R which replaced the SV8).

Just replaced the rear tyres, 285/30/20's that are genuinely massive.

It's back. Managed finally to rebuild its original engine, so travelled in style to my holiday in the Cairngorms, and also Cardigan Bay.

Soon to be replaced by its big brother unfortunately.

Had a GT in the late 90’s and was a little hesitant, as it is not the same beast. But, as you say, the deal was too good to turn down, so I ordered and 5 months later, I took delivery.

It’s pretty much what I expected - cool, powerful, but very well put together, with some superb design quirks, roomy and it sounds amazing. Very pleased 500 miles in.

Finally (after 7 years) got rid of the v8 Lexus (very sad to see it go) and we are now a fully hybrid family (as we got rid of the little Suzuki Alto too):

Nowhere near as powerful but, after a scary 6 point/£500 fine incident last year, I can't afford another - so no speeding temptation for me now!

The Yaris is surprisingly grown up for a little car and the Auris is lovely - very comfortable, quiet and economical. 50+ mpg pretty much everywhere without trying.

The little monkey in the middle is my 5 year old - who had just "helped" to clean them :-)

    Cheers,

    Mark C

Aren't the government increasing the road tax for hybrid cars?

    No (!) it’s a diesel...

Houses a 3 litre V6 twin turbo, so packs a decent punch, but they’ve added a sport button, which changes the engine tone beyond belief to give a lovely burble on tick over and a real grunt when you get moving.

Always loved the Quatroporte and was seriously tempted when I first heard about the Ghibli.

Somehow I'd guessed that was what you were getting by the odd clue you dropped in.

    Hope you enjoy it mate.

That's interesting. I've driven some powerful BMW and Audi 6 cyl diesels but they were all a disappointment to listen to, particularly at idle. If Maserati have bottomed how to get them sounding sexy that's an excellent job.

Had a Panamera diesel courtesy car last year and that did not sound diesel-a-like at all either. Bar the lower redline, you'd be hard pushed to tell much of a difference. Excepting things like the GTS with the switchable exhaust, obviously!

    The SQ5 Audi doesn't sound diesel-powered either.

    Hi Mark

It is an S4 albeit a very late registered one. It was one of 77 UK cars registered after the introduction of the GTS during 92 & 93 (this one is Feb 93). Lovely car but unfortunately, the only part replacement is a new shower room
