Thread: What do you drive?

  1. #2551
My new (to me) 330i- really liking it so far, quick but usable without license losing power- intoxicating engine at full chat :-)

Not a car but I've had bikes for over 20 years and this was my dream bike when I was younger- tracked a mint one down last year.

I've been on plenty of car meets with the same makes and models, but driving along with thirteen other cars that are essential identical was a little surreal. One of the guys works for PH and will be writing an article on it shortly.

^^^^^Yep, it was Nigel who put me on to it when the car was announced by Caterham last Thursday/Friday. I understand half the build of 20 cars has been sold already! A factory one for me though.

I've been toying with replacing my 2-Eleven with an R500.

Went to see Dominic at Caterham South and looked at a couple but I don't want a sequential box.

I really need to drive one to understand how the power is delivered as the curve is pretty smooth from the Lotus' supercharged lump

It's not that we don't like other colours; Renault made 500 Trophy's for the UK (and a further 50 for the Swiss) and you could only get it in red. Driving at the front of the pack and glancing back was like looking in one of those infinity mirrors!

    Thank you!

It certainly is the last with a N/A engine. The new one looks good but I think it will lose something, hope it doesn't lose too much or I will have nowhere to go next time! Still, the new C63 AMG has gone down that route and its supposed to be pretty epic and generally better all round.

I bought this a couple of weeks ago. Doesn't look that rare at first glance, but I've never seen another one of them on the road. The tech is very clever and I'm really impressed with it overall. 5 series hybrid.

Cracking car, tried to convince my previous employer to let me have one instead of my 520d as I wanted to be 'green'. Unfortunately they spotted what the electric engine was accompanied with under the bonnet & saw through my less than cunning plan....

  25. #2575
Thank you, I really like it. I fancied a change from the last few diesels I've had and the 3.0l petrol turbo is a peach. it's fun to pootle around on electric power too.

I'm not sure it stacks up at RRP which is why there are so few of them around but I got a very good deal on it so I'm a happy camper.

I'm getting about 70 miles but it spends all its time with at least 300kg of its 700kg payload. There's an update out at the end of the year with 25% more battery capacity and hence range. It's right at the limit for me and I should have waited for the update but that's life!

That's pretty impressive considering the weight you're carrying! I drive a Volt right now which I love but I an anxiously awaiting the 200+ mile cars coming out in 2017.

They're not bringing the new volt over here; the last one was a bit of a sales flop.
Once the 200+ mile cars start coming I think the floodgates will open. I've only been using the van for a week and it's been a real eye opener. The next few years should be absolutely amazing.

Some tasty wagons in this thread.

They all fade in comparison to my 2009 Ford Focus though.

Yes the Volt didn't sell as well as they had predicted over here either but I really don't think the dealerships wanted to push the car too much. There's a better margin on the Cruze and old economic thinking is hard to change.

Going electric is a real game changer as they say! You're going to love it! Good luck.

I'm loving it already! The wife has just bought a new Mini but if she hadn't I'd be pushing her towards the Renault Zoe. There are some amazing deals on that one at the moment and she doesn't need any more mileage.
I'm toying with the idea of a nearly new Ampera (Vauxhall badged Volt) as I still need an engine for my odd 200 mile trip.

I just could not find a show-off car to suit my requirements so I bought this bad boy for my baby:

My commute is around 70 miles each day through some rather hilly countryside. That's why I ended up getting the Volt instead of the Leaf. The generator insured I would always have range I needed. And like you say I do take the occasional road trip. I have nothing but good to say about the Volt and I'm sure the Ampera is just as good. I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed if you do decide to go that way.

I just got a hybrid - its so out of my comfort zone and that is coming from an automatic - going to take some getting used to

Daily driver - Mini Countryman Cooper S
Sunny day car - Mazda MX5

Very pleased with both, the Mini is actually a great all rounder if you can forgive the looks as well as being fast enough for the road and an effective B road tool. The MX5 is still one of the best handling cars I have ever driven; and I have driven some excellent handling cars from Ferrari, Porsche, Lotus and Toyota (original AE86 Corolla GT Coupe), but again you just have to get over the connotations of being tarred with the Hair-dresser brush.
