You purist. In the eyes of many the ONLY E-type. The 4.2 is good though.

'88 LHD MK2 Golf GTi 16v, due to be fitted with 2.0 ACE engine with light tweaks.
'01 Passat V6 4motion workhorse and snow basher - awesome, 4x Verdestine Snowtrac 3 for the winter and snow coming over the bonnet no worries.

Pics to follow at some point!

Tell me more, what engine does it have and what difference has the Bluefin made?

I have Bluefin on my 123d and it's made a huge difference, well worth the money :)

A4 cab is a contender for next car as I miss open top motoring :)

    Re: What do you drive?

Renault Clio 16V for a runaround (and been to the 'ring a few times).
Alfa 156 2.5 as the family car.
Westfield SEiGHT mainly for motorsport (although it's road legal and has also been to the 'ring 3 times, and used to see a lot of road use before the kids came along).

Great car, Paul! I have its big brother -- the Mazda 6 MPS (called the Speed6 here in North America). The engine is tweaked a bit in mine for a bit more hp, but the extra weight of the AWD system means that the 3 MPS is much quicker. The 6 is awesome on the highway and it pulls from a stop like no car I've ever driven, but the nimble 3 would be much faster around a track.

Unfortunately, I've no pics of my car.... I should take one at some point.

    Cheers,

    Jay

I drive this currently.. Picture is from the road to LeMans 24 Heures this year.

330d with fresh ECU, exhaust, intercooler, ~250bhp and 35mpg average. Goes like stink and on 124,000 miles...

    Paintjob now gone

There's a lot of nice cars on this thread, but I'm really really impressed by only one: whoever it was who has a McLaren F1. :drunken: :drunken: :drunken:

Seeing as I've bought a Rolex, qualified as a surgeon, married a fabulous girl.......my next life goal is that car!

It has the vw 2.0 tfsi, the bluefin has made a massive difference and it pulls hard but smoothly in every gear. Great car, I will be sad when the day comes when I eventually part company with it...although I have a habit it blowing the engines on my cars so they normally retire in a scrappy !

After a long search I finally picked this up on the weekend. Not had much of a chance to put it through its paces yet but so far am loving the noise! Particularly like the understated looks which disguise the performance, looking forward to giving it a proper run out on the weekend. :)

That's a great car. E28 will always have a special place in my heart... it was my first nice car and it still had the original vintage "BMW spirit".

M635 CSi is a great car as well, but those are climbing in value now. 8-series is bound to be classic as well. Love the classic Beemers... not too fond of the new ones though.

    A man with taste! :D

They only made around 175 RHD E28 M5s, and approx. 50 still on the road today (according to MOT test data), so rare to see indeed. I've only seen two in my life, the above being one!

8-series is defo a future classic IMO, buy a good one of them and watch the prices rise over the coming years, lovely looking things :)

I've heard a lot of bad things about the V12/automatic combo in 850i. All experts have adviced me to stay away from it, unless I start to date a BMW mechanic. 840i with V8 is much better choice (according to them). There must be a logic there as 840's are more expensive in Germany too.

I don't know about those rumors... actually I'm buying a car right now... a hobbyist car so to speak. Porsche 928 S4 is probably my choice but I was thinking of a 8-series as well. Too bad there are very few 840's available in my country. It'd be a trip to Germany if I wanted one. Porsche 928 can easily outclass 8-series Beemer in every way (driving and performance, it's not even close), but then again I absolutely love the BMW interior which is far superior to Porsche.

    Decisions, decisions... 8)

I currently have a BMW M3, but soon to change to a Range Rover Sport as I ideally need something bigger for work. Been used to performance cars for the last ten years so not sure how a diesel automatic will feel

Don't do it! I nearly went from an M5 into an RRS at the start of the year but luckily a poor test drive led me straight back to BMW and into an E92 M3 :)

A colleague has a 2.7 RRS and it's so slow it's unreal, plus the interior is very cheap if you are used to BMW quality.

    Re: What do you drive?

I'd be going for the 3.6 tdv8 which at least has some pace to it, agree the 2.7 is painfully slow. I am thinking of buying myself a race car next year so I won't really need anything too quick for the road!

  32. #232

    !

I've never had anything other than totally boring cars (currently a Citroen Berlingo) assuming that nothing would match the fun of big bikes, which I gave up c.20 years ago. BUT - I spent yesterday blasting around in a 125bhp Caterham 7 Roadsport, courtesy roadsporthire.com. I'm now wondering how I can afford one - gotta be the PERFECT car for Lakeland roads!

Not really a big beemer fan but my old boss had an original M535 with the dog leg gearbox back in maybe 81/82 ??? he used to let me wash it for him

Hardly original, but without doubt the best all round car I've ever owned and at 5 years and still counting, by far the longest I've ever owned a car.

Back in the early 90's I worked for Chartered Trust (part of Standard Chartered Bank) and I recall arranging HP on one of these beasts for the owner of a large chain of Hi-Fi shops in the West Country. His was the dark green (mallard I think it was). As we financed over 30k it meant I had to do a vehicle inspection which included a test drive  :D

I think I was driving a Gutmann tuned Peugeot 309 GTi which I thought was quick, until I had a blast around the block in this bad boy :D A fantastic beast of a car that's brought back a lot of good memories. Yours looks a mint one too!
