I once built a Westfield with pretty much everything in Carbon to save weight down to 450kg. Only problem was that I added almost 20% to the weight once I got in it.

Anyway, just to wrap this up- got car back today from spray shop minus tea tray:

And as predicted (by me) you did the correct thing!

Did lose myself a few hours reading up on the alleged risks, but am fully aligned.

If I didn't need a daily drive for a 60 mile commute, I'd consider similar.

Looks awesome without the tea tray! I always though it ruined the lines of a 911. Looked like an after thought after someone finished designing the car!

You can have an SC for a daily commute!
The engines are bombproof if looked after properly-and they really are a great driving car.
They are so basic and agricultural that even at low speeds they are exciting to drive.
Compared to many 911's it's still a fairly cheap model and they are going up in value so it makes financial sense
as opposed to the depreciation on a new car.
Main issue to look for when buying is rust.

Definitely the cheapest way to improve performance by reducing weight, a diet.

Some of the cars in this thread are also in my dreams - really nice stuff. With a 6 year old and 3 year old, my options don't reach out to 911's or that type.

I own a decent golf GTI, but 4 out of 5 days a week I cycle to work.

I saw an 88 3.2 targa with G50, today in white. It was nice and straight with no rust, but nothing special. Sold for £20k !!

if you want an Aircooled Porsche do it quickly - even the 914 will be out of sight soon!

Over the years I`ve had a few fairly quick cars; nothing really silly but fast enough to be entertaining. However, I`m now convinced that todays roads/road conditions are completely at odds with the performance cars that are available. Been there, done that, got the points on my licence........I`ve finally smelt the coffee and at the age of 56 I`ve grown out of the performance thing.

I`m still running a Jag XF 3.0 Diesel which is plenty quick enough and comfy with it; no plans to sell it yet, it's far too nice, but my priorities have changed somewhat. Next on my shopping list is another classic car, probably an MGB; I`ve owned 3 over the years and rebuilt two. With a mildly modified engine they're fast enough, and a whole lot more fun than a lot of modern stuff. Time to dust down the spanners methinks......and possibly put the watch tools away for a while!

I always wanted a Mercedes SL so in April this year I got a SL500. Lovely car but after lusting after one for so long it was a bit of disappointment to be honest. Having scratched that itch, it went yesterday and this one replaced it.

I'm curious - why was the SL500 disappointing?

Personally Audis are far too uncomfortable and hurt my back, pity as they are well built and interior is very nice.

Well, with its lighter weight and 5 litre V8, the 0-60 figure is no better than my ML420 diesel for a start and the BHP is identical at 306BHP. Although it would return around 25mpg on a run, it could be down at 9mpg in town driving. It just didn't feel like a driver's car.

    DSG or manual?

Exactly the same reason I got rid of mine, lovely comfortable long distance tourer but not exciting and verging on boring. Traded in for a BMW e92 M3 with 420bhp, definitely doesnt fall into the boring category!

Should have tried a SL55 Bob, although can't argue about the M3!

Did think about it Vince as well as the C63 as I love Mercs but after 3 SL's it was time for a change, Mercedes have one philosophy with fast cars and thats to drop a big lump of an engine in and to hell with the handling, I'me happy with the beemer at the moment but who knows what will be next!!

    I picked this up today - it's an A6 1.8T.

And of course no sooner had I arrived home, and the alarm starting acting the arse causing the hazards to flash intermittently while driving. I've to bring it back to the garage on Monday :( Bit of a bummer, as it was by far the cleanest one I'd found and seemed to be in great condition.

I'd love a Defender but the wife would kill me. Besides, I don't have any wellies.

In a similar vein to Yeti, on Thursday I'm picking up something a little more practical for moving the kids around. My wife said it needed four doors and plenty of room for bikes etc.

My friend in Toronto has the Hemi version of this, it is practically undriveable, I spin the wheels every time I pull away from standstill! A good roomy truck though :)
