I love this car, it is such a "fashion item" at the moment in white, it turns heads wherever I go  [quote]

Could I ask if you have ever owned/driven the previous E46 M3? I am interested in a comparison!

You're in luck my friend, I not only had an E46 M3 I also had an E46 M3 CSL 8)

The standard E46 M3 is a superb car, and at todays prices is bargain of the century  Avoid the overpriced CS and if budget allows go for the CSL, its EPIC!

The E92 is a lot better, but then the E46 is quite old now in comparison, but remember it is also twice the price

Thanks for the info, currently thinking about either an E92 or Audi S5.

Not interested in a CSL, I was at a point in the past, but when it came to it as it was my daily driver I was willing to sacrifice the additional performance for the added luxuries/toys and bought a standard M3. :D

I also took SMG II, which although not loved by many nor the smoothes semi-auto in the world I loved it!

I would second the recommendation for the E46 M3. I had one for 3 yrs before my E92 which I've had for a year. The E46 was a gem - really quick, but very useable as a daily drive. The E92 is faster and in many ways easier to drive - I love it. But the E46 is a bargain if you get a good used one.
Personally I have had standard manuals in both - the older SMG II was not my cup of tea; the new M-DCT 7 speed is great on the track, but probably no advantage on the road - it is such a tractable engine that you don't need to change gears much unless you're hustling!

I'd like something like that, just take off and park up somewhere sunny :)

Although something like this would be better for my truck, just not so easy to park

    Some nice motors here.

    Check out the mighty picaso

Im running standard 1.6 ali block , 0-60 in around 30 seconds.
Zeon tyres for unparalleled road holding.
Beautiful custom shop Blue paint job, very expensive.
20" rims sitting crazy low. ( need to pump up the tyre a bit )

Look at those rims, well dont actually. They are on a hard shoulder somewhere in the UK. But the wheels are made out of some kind of steel, Blackened by a special process.

I don't, starting lessons again in a couple of weeks. My chauffer (the wife) drives a pug 306 diesel estate, not great but it cost nothing to run, and I can do a few jobs on it due to it's low tech in areas.

    Re: What do you drive?

My previous motor was a tweaked T5. Spoiler and badges removed, it looked like something an old fart from suburbia would drive. I used to outrun many many BMW owners in that thing and I loved it!

The look on many a BMW owners face, when he saw me fade in the distance in a vehicle with the aerodynamic values of QEII was absolutely priceless. I like a car with no flash but with plenty of power. Unfortunately local enforcement took umbrage + the fact that I have driven thousands of miles through Europe and spent many hours on the autobahn doing 250-260 kmph and up (the engine was "slightly" tweaked and the speed indicator would go to 260 and still the motor had some oomph) made me think, that my luck might run out.

Anyway, I have had my fun going 260+ for many an hour. Now I drive like an old fart; cruise control in the inner lane going 125-130 kmph.

It took me a while to get this, as they are a million kroner over here

Yeah, it does sound like a bad joke all right :(

Anyway, the fact remains that excise taxes on new cars in many EU countries are a scandal  Free market? What free market?

I quite agree. Poor fools who voted for EU was told that this was one of the things, that would change, but it did not.

Denmark is one of those countries which is hit the hardest regarding motor tax, but then it takes a lot of money to finance a social experiment.

    Re: What do you drive?

I've been rattling around London in the Spider today (I haven't driven to work in 13 years, so it's a novel experience). It really is a heap of junk; rattly, leaky, semi-detached trim, with the hood up it's like driving from inside a pillar-box, and gets windy on motorways, but it's comfortable, sounds good, fast enough to keep up with the traffic and absolutely perfect for bimbling around at 30 - 70mph with the roof down.

I'm taking it to France this summer and I'm looking forward to the experience of driving without the continual crash bang thump of British roads.

The pic reminds me actually that I really need to give it a wash and polish - it looks even more like a skip on wheels than usual at the moment

Very nice - for some reason the thing I like more than anything about the Spider / GTV is the footwell - makes it feel like a supercar when you get in even though it's only a Fiat with unreliable bells on.

Edit: The car behind mine belongs to a neighbour who has about 6 or 7 cars in various states of repair - (1st generation Land Rover, Corvette, Trans Am, early VW Camper, Morris Minor, the black one above is a Pontiac of some sort I think) - pretty interesting collection.
