It's not even "that" bad as I don't spank it around everywhere - 21.7 on average. Just the price of fuel has rocketed this year so it "feels" like it costs so much to run! Anyhow, moving office this week so will be 1 mile from home and shall cycle

    Re: What do you drive?

It was the few trips returning 9mpg that made me get rid of this 'all rounder'

I'nm surprised that the B4's V6 is as gutsy as that, Jon - you have my ex-RS owning sympathies.

It looks a realy beauty, easily the fastest colour too 8)

I passed my test relatively late (age 33 ) so my current car/first car is a Mk5 Golf TDI. Really like it, but it's the 1.9 100BHP and I am already hankering after 2.0 140/170.

Nice to see an X5 being used with a proper engine

When I tell people I drive a petrol V8, they recoil as if I've just said I eat babies for fun. It's a shame that small diesel engines is the moral high ground people like to perch on.

When I first bought my 8 series many, many years ago, people used to ask, "how fast does it go?". Nobody asks that now, "What MPG do you get?" :(

Who cares, it's a big burbly fast V8, that's the headlines

Don't get me started on the moralists. My personal carbon footprint is tiny, i rarely fly and my car is my only real indulgence, outside of watches, alcohol and wimmin :D

I'm with you - I drive a Lexus V8 and (until recently) the ONLY question I would get is "how thirsty is THAT?!?" - now, of course, I get "when are you going to change it for a sensible family car now that you have a child?"

    My answers:

"16mpg around town and 30+ on a loger run BUT I DON'T CARE!!! It's a V8 for crying out loud!"

    and

"what's not sensible about a quiet and comfortable 5 seat, 4 door saloon with a massive boot, isofix fittings and some of the most advanced safety features available?"

I usually get some mutterings including the words "diesel" and "people carrier" but I generally ignore them at this stage.

    Cheers,

As long as China still uses coal as it's primary energy source, I'll keep enjoying the soon-to-be-relics known as muscle cars.

Driving a VW Jetta (diesel) for now, but looking to move up to a yummy 500bhp V10.

    M5 or M6? Although, strictly speaking IIRC they're 507bhp :D

See they are OK but in all honesty they need a turbo (or 2!)

Current RS4 is utter pants due to lack of turbos IMO. RS6 is where it's at, an easy 700bhp with a few mods... just mental.

I'm going to guess you mean 6 cylinder, either that or you have very few valves indeed for a modern engine...

    Re: What do you drive?

In the last couple of weeks I've woken my MX5 and 924S track car from their slumber in a barn. The MX is MOTd and taxed but really does need new shock absorbers and possibly ARB bushes. The 924 just needs the windscreen wash sorted for the MOT. Anyone know if you can get away with strapping a water pistol to the door as a manual wash? The Boxster is my everyday car, the 500 my girlfriend's, although she's terrified of driving so I use it for pootling around. Healey engine and 'box are in, now to fit the interior, windscreen, dash and chrome and it's ready for the winter! Pics to follow soon. That leaves a tuned and modified '67 MGB GT in the barn, awaiting fibreglass panels, plastic windows and a general tart up

MG back when it was road legal and slightly heavier from lack of rust

Healey still looks like this although absolutely everything under the skin has been rebuilt or replaced

Both absolutely stunning too, must be hard choosing which one to drive!

    Re: What do you drive?

    From own extreme to another.....

I've been driving around in this as of late:

... and a lot of fun it is too!

It's a Honda CRX (basically a Civic) and the roof is removable: with a 1600cc engine it's surprisingly fast and with the rear window electrically operated it's a really nice open top.

It was in a rough old state and I took it on to get it cleaned up so it can be sold, this was what it looked like on arrival:

No 'after' photo's but suffice to say it looks a heck of a lot better now.

Nasty semi-automatic Ford Fiesta Mk5 at the moment but will be buying a Caterham Seven when I move back to the UK.

Not sure the Caterham is going to be so good for transporting the kayaks though!

Both very nice, but I am absolutely loving that Porsche. 8) So cool. An old 911SC or something along those line will be my first foray into classic cars when it comes.

This is my daily at the moment. The photo was taken last year at Co. Antrim's "Dark Hedges", near Armoy.

Getting a bit soggy timberwise, so I will soon be making myself another one so that OLE can come off the road for some body frame replacement.

    Hi there!

A newbie from Finland here, so this might be my 1st posting. Ok, here goes:

My daily driver is a Porsche Cayman S, my other Porsche a Grand Prix White 1987 Carrera 3,2. And a Mazda MX-5 which dates back to early 1990s.

Being a canny Scot, and with the price of fuel these days, I couldn't cope with 25mpg from my trusty old Disco TD5, so in the interests of economy, I got this little 2.0l diesel baby!

I'll miss the Disco come winter, but I love the space and comfort in the wee Merc - 55mpg is more like it, with cheap road tax too! It's almost a pleasure to fill it up at the pumps!
