Indeed, sorry. I remember an uncle of mine having one from new in 1970 or so. A slight contrast to the Lambo..

So long as you can persuade one of them to drive back

I've got this in the garage - a 1985 Reliant scimitar SS1 - rebuilt with an 1800 Zetec in it:

There's a thread about it here in Boys Rooms: http://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.ph...ebuild-upgrade A lot faster than it used to be (original engine was 1600 CVH) & it's great fun to drive with excellent handling & rear wheel drive - they're very under-rated cars (the styling doesn't help) but are great fun to drive & cheap! :)

My daily drive is an Alfa 156 diesel - I've had it a year nearly & it currently has no warning lights illuminated on the dashboard which is pretty good. It's my first diesel & I'm amazed by the economy - 48(ish)mpg around town - not sure what it does on a run but probably in the low/mid 50's I should think. I like it but would really like a 159 which are one of the best proportioned/looking cars on the road. I've not had this long enough to consider changing it yet & 159's are still too expensive for me at the moment.

    I love the Jalpa & 1300GT :)

I drive a Nissan 350z which is great.

However my previous car, a seat Ibiza cupra, was the worst car ever. A real Friday job!

Troon, that's the (so-called) Italian Gardens, next to where the open air swimming pool used to be. I've stayed there since 1984.

    Well done Jim!

Reliving my youth here, when my father used to take us to the Ayrshire coast at the weekends. Very fond memories of Troon, Largs, Saltcoats, Rothesay, etc.

However, it's funny how differently you appreciate all these places as an adult - they take on totally different values for you!

    Cheers

No, I had the front wall knocked down so I can get the ML onto the hardstanding at the front of the house. Planning application is in for the dropped kerb and my builder is back next week to smarten things up.

@underthrboardwalk; very neat cars those! There are three of those Panda 4x4 in daily use here in the village. Surprisingly competent and fun here. An acquaintance last year changed theirs for a Suzuki Jimny because it was getting worn out but they did not improve on their ride.

Friends of ours are VERY happy to have sold their 323 cabrio yesterday. They already had bought a Suzuki Jimny last year as the fun bit of the BMW was not enough to compensate for too much unfun impracticality where they live.
I expect that part of the BMW sale will go towards a bikini top for the Jimny; they rode with hardtop off all summer.

It's a V70 T5 and that photo was taken just after I'd replaced the suspension with slightly lower stuff. I've also uprated the pads this weekend so now it stops and handles as well as it goes. I've booked it on a track day at Cadwell and I'm not sure if it's going to be entertaining or terrifying as the last car I drove around there was my old VX220. It'll stand out amongst the hot hatches and track specials that's for sure!

Superb. I like your driving style - very sympathetic to the old girl.

She does sound good, too. Pulls well low down.

    Lovely stuff.

Not exactly being driven at the moment... but here's my latest acquisition , an Audi Cabriolet 2.6 V6 auto.

    Started off like this:

    Then it turned into this:

    And currently like this:

But I'm finally at the point of reassembling it now. Very under-rated cars IMO: the build-quality is just awesome and therefore it is a pleasure to work on. Everything fits so well on reassembly as they are so over-engineered to start with.

Leather upholstery out for re-furbishing, carpet out to investigate leak (discovered to be a slight weep on heater matrix). Other than that she's in pretty good condition, but I've bought a MOT failure to act as a donor car for any parts I might need in the future - also picked up a hard-top to put on for the winter months.

Well you certainly don't do anything by halves Ralphy, this must be the third or fourth project you've posted which involved a total strip-down. I admire your skill and dedication.

Got to love the T5s... Top performance and hardly anyone ever expects it. Proper wolves in sheep skin!

As far as I can recall, Ralphy takes perfectly good cars, and then dismantles them...

Well, he thinks he does. ;-)

Progress on the re-colouring is underway. It's been a bit of a learning experience i.e. trial and error, but I'm getting the hang of it now. Some before & after pics:

Hopefully I'll have it all finished and back together before I disappear abroad next week.

I think you're the first person to call it restrained (other than when I ran the idea past the girl friends ;) )

Truth be told it is a great car, always an event to drive and without the trinkets and bling of some German equivalents.

The car I enjoy driving the most - an '88 Golf Mk1 cabrio. Similar to this one:
