Thread: What do you drive?

I get asked a lot why I'd have two Turbos, but they are so different, aside from a lack of practicality which they share, there is very little overlap. There is a definite lineage, but it's hard to believe that there is only 17 years between them.

Love the 930- few cars are as iconic……white my favourite colour aswell…..looks the business

This racing yellow 991.2 RS turned up recently- it’s a bit chav looking with the weissach package black bonnet etc

Wowsers!!! I wish something like this would 'turn up' on my drive - all I get is the local fox doing it's business in my veg patch

Looks fantastic! Can we see a photo out in natural light? Awesome machine.

She’s been away getting a PPF so I haven’t had much opportunity for taking pics but this natural light

Looks fantastic. Did you do the PPF on the whole car? I'm having it done on my 930 in two weeks.

    Front facing PPF-

    Bumper
    Bonnet
    Wing mirrors
    Roof
A narrow strip along the bottom of the sides which then comes up over the rear wheel arches.

It all seems an unnecessary expense imho - but when it comes to selling in the future dealers and prospective buyers seem to get hysterical over stone chips and having original paint

It is very expensive, but yes, it's become one of those things we're being convinced is completely necessary, which is silly as even brand new cars will often have some paint done before sale. The whole original paint thing is similar to "never driven in the wet"... Sure, in the UK...

I didn't do PPF on my 997 as the paint isn't perfect already, so correcting that at some point in the future will be cheaper than PPF, but I did decide to do the whole 930 as it's almost immaculate and I'm worried about the white really showing the difference in paint fading between protected and unprotected areas.

It's the best looking Mk3 I've ever seen! Never understood why Mazda don't do full on special editions like this.

I think that aerial needs to go...

I'm a wagon guy. Third Mercedes in a row (2019 E-class) and indestructible Volvo V70 (2009) with 249 thousand kilometers on the clock. My son is 11 now and he will get this as his first car when he gets the drivers' licence in 7 years.

Owned this over 13 years now, bought by me at around its 3rd year after initial registration. At 116k miles and with plenty of stone chips the old girl is starting to show her age, still polishes up OK though.

What is a PPF? I’m guessing it’s paint protection of some sort but no idea what it’s stands for.

Paint Protection Film - in other words a clear wrap.

Wasn't sure if I should start a new thread as these aren't the cars I drive... anyhow, went to Donington to watch my FIL's friend race his Cobra. Paddock wasn't open to the public, so was very quiet, and everyone was so happy to show off their cars and talk at length about them. My photos are Porsche centric and I completely fell in love with the Vaillant RSR. We watched it race and then saw it parked, and when we went up to it a young guy came out of the tent and showed us around it, opening the front and the engine bay, discussing all of the RSR mods, etc. I was very interested as it still uses the same K Jetronic ignition as my 930, but it's in a different place and the air is routed through chargecoolers bypassing the air meter, which I am trying to get my head around.

    Our friend's 260 Cobra.

The 1976 Turbo RSR It started life as a normal US 930, was imported into the UK fitted with a VW Golf engine (WTF?!) and then converted into a full blown 934.

I loved this car! Very early, short wheelbase, US car. Cosmetically looked very scruffy, but soooo cool.

And finally a 991 RS. If you described to me the combination of body and wheel colours I would think it would be horrible, but looked amazing.

I hadn't owned a car for 28 years - living and working in a city means Vespa for daily trips and car rental when necessary. Anyhow, I just bought this for high days and holidays - Alfa Romeo Brera Skyview.

You can get Skyview? Where's the satelite dish?

I've always had a soft-spot for Alfas, and the Brera is a nice one.
So clever my foot fell off.

Funny you should say that, I've been mulling over a Brera or maybe a 159 Sport waggon for a couple of weeks.

I've been close twice but the local Alfa dealer is everything bad about the Alfa network that you hear which is such a shame because the Giulia QV really is a special piece of kit to me.
I've had many Alfas, my 147 Gta being a particular favourite and have enjoyed them all.

I had one for a few weeks as a courtesy car - loved the looks and power but still preferred my M3 over it. The Alfa interior looked nice but didn’t feel premium enough and I hated that you couldn’t have the full on exhaust sound without being in race mode which turns the traction control off and it is quite a handful, especially in cold or wet conditions. I can appreciate why people go for them though, nice to have a choice!

I do like Alfas but haven’t owned any since the bad days (80’s) when I chopped my last one, at a year old, for a new Golf in 1983. At this stage I’d love a GTV or a GT Junior, or even a Lancia Fulvia coupe.

I've lusted after a lancia Fulvia HF since being a wee lad.

Having the same dilemma in our house, brera or the 159 sportwagen as a second car, as the wife won't allow a land rover.
