    New bike/private plate/insurance query

Chaps, picking up a new to me bike in a week or so but I intend to put a private plate from DVLA registrations on it. However, I don’t think you can do this until the V5 is in your name. Usually a few days later IME following online re-registration - can I work this with the insurance company somehow to avoid the ubiquitous £30+ admin fee etc?

Just done this myself yesterday and yes you will need the V5 showing the original reg in your name before putting your private reg onto the bike. I’m with Devitts and they didn’t charge me for the reg change.

It depends on the insurance company, some allow a grace period of a couple of weeks to make minor name, plate changes, without charge

    Best to ask the insurers.

My insurance actually went down and received a refund, about £11. The dealer can assign the plate at pick up but in my case the dealer was reluctant to on the day. Probably just wanted to go home early. It was done a few days after by the dealer.
