Elgin U.S. Military Watch

Can anyone help in the identification of this ELGIN watch.
It is inscribed U.S. GOV. N.B.S. 4935. on the back together with 'WATERPROOF' 'STAINLESS STEEL' and 'SELFWINDING'









Sorry about the quality of the pics

Ibought the watch about four year ago from a friend and the only information that I was given was that the watch was a well known model and that he had seen a similar watch worn in a U.S. Navy war movie.
I can't remember how much I paid for it , I think that it was around £50.

I really like the watch and it keeps excellent time.

Have you opened it?

Any information on the movement, ie serial no. or grade no.?

No , I haven't got the special tool. The back has about 15 sides and is screwed on.
