'53 Omega with all the "bells & whistles"...

Was priveleged to see a "full set" of accessories which a veteran of the Suez Crisis brough back with him, now in the hands of a passionate collector...

The set comprises two "escape maps" printed on silk; issue sunglasses (in their original case); wrist-compass; 1953 Omega Mk XI centre seconds strap watch; and finally, an RAF Christmas card (signed "Woody" - I guess it was in one of my former lives!). The set is housed in an S.O.E. detonator tin!!

The watch is in peachy condition!

    Fantastic strap!!

    Original winder... just perfick!

And just for good measure, the '53 Omega nestles alongside an IWC Mk X W.W.W...

    Worth another picture, hey??

Hope you enjoyed 'em as much as I did!!

    Hi Mike,
Fantastic story and indeed great watches and straps. While the martket is full of "NATO-straps" and modern copy's of what you show, many collectors of military watches would love to buy the straps that you show. If one looks in the military literature( Marvin Whitney), one can see clearly that these are the straps that were mounted on the post-war military wrist watches. So, a plea to to the strap manufacturers ( as addressed in this thread already) : PLEASE MAKE THESE STRAPS.
    Kind regards,
    Adrian.

Very nice Mike indeed. So much nicer to have a watch with a bit of history.

    Nice looking watch.
That is what I call a military piece.
The more that I look them, the more I want one for work.
But possibly with a chronograph feature.

The Nilsen straps look much like Eddie's offerings and not at all like the ones shown above on MW's '53.

I thought I'd better repost the following photos of a webbing strap I had in a couple of years back, as it appears to be a simplified/modified version of the strap at the start of the thread:
