I'd talk to Ebay about it - doesn't smell right to me.
Guys
Have had my Breitling Colt listed on here for a week or so at £500, anyway having had no joy I listed it on Ebay yesterday for Auction with a 'Buy it Now' of £495.
Within the Hour somebody hit the buy it now button for £495 .
ZERO feedback and a Ebay signature of hikoley102gold, buyer shipping address on the Ebay mail was...
hikoley gold
45 Moorfields
London, London EC2Y9AE United Kingdom .
Anyway sent invoice via yesterday and heard nothing, then just got this email....
along with a Paypal payment of £535 ( total with postage came to £505 , extra £30 ) from a Mr Rusty Page ! a Verified Buyer.
Hello
Thank you for notifying me about the item i won..I just want to inform you that i have paid a sufficient amount of money for the shipment to the below address, and it has been deducted from my account. So i want you to ship the item asap, because the item is meant to be a Birthday gift item for my son.I would have sent it myself but i am out of town for an AIDS/ HIV CAMPAIGN RESEARCH.And i want you to send the item very fast so that it can get there on time because i want her to receive it ASAP.That was why i have paid for fast shipment to her place through Royal Mail International Sign For
The shipping or the delivery information is written below
Alake Adedayo Stephen
Flat 309, Glen park view
233,muriel avenue,
Waterkloof Glen
Pretoria, 0181
South Africa
Plz take no offense as Royal Mail International Sign For is my preference, I will be glad to find a favour from you if you can write a short note on it with Happy Birthday, love from dad.
NOTE, KINDLY WRITE on the parcel"PERSONAL GIFT ITEM FOR PRIVATE USE"
Google earthed both address's the London one looks like an office block ( or multi Storey Car park :| ) and the South Africa one looks like a very nice suberb, big houses pools etc.
Do you guys think this a Paypal chargeback Scam ?? or genuine :?
I'd talk to Ebay about it - doesn't smell right to me.
 I would refund them and say g'day.. Alake Adedayo Stephen sounds Nigerian to me. Then again, I've no idea how these scams work but if indeed you sent it using signed for, you could always show ebay that you delivered the item?
Did you have a set of countries listed where you will / won't ship to?
Sounds very dodgy.
Could be a hijacked account.
Keep it to a UK sale only to be bit safer.
Had a similar situation myself years ago with a payment from Russia which didn't smell right. I refunded their paypal payment immediately and found out later via paypal it was a stolen/cloned credit card.
I would urge you to refund and get out of it.
Cheers,
Neil.
I always thought sons had the same surnames as their fathers.
An easy way out would be to say that you aren't able to ship on such a fast time frame and politely decline.
Me too.Alake Adedayo Stephen sounds Nigerian to me.

Sounds well dodgy.Thank you for notifying me about the item i won..I just want to inform you that i have paid a sufficient amount of money for the shipment to the below address, and it has been deducted from my account. So i want you to ship the item asap, because the item is meant to be a Birthday gift item for my son.I would have sent it myself but i am out of town for an AIDS/ HIV CAMPAIGN RESEARCH.And i want you to send the item very fast so that it can get there on time because i want her to receive it ASAP.That was why i have paid for fast shipment to her place through Royal Mail International Sign For
If it were me I'd refund with a polite explanation and contact ebay.

Well I dont think the Colt will be heading for South Africa thats for sure :?
Sounds like 100% scam to me, can't believe you're questioning it tbh! Wants it shipped quick before anyone realises it's a hijacked account. Sons birthday and HIV benefit are just there to try and legitimise his need for expedience and also to elicit some empathy from you. If this aint a scam i'll show my arse in woolies window
At the end of the day you do what you want to, but this smells exceedingly fishy imo.
Oh btw, Rusty Page is nothing to do with me :D
Rusty
That sounds well dodgy to me. Had one similar before Christmas - BIN, zero feedback, address in London, but a little digging shown the account was registered in Texas. Then get what looked like a PayPal email telling me they she would pay me more then I was asking for but couldn't pay until I shipped the item to Nigeria - been around long enough not to do anything. Put the item back up for sale and told e-Bay about it.
If it highlights it for others why not post it :? Mr PageOriginally Posted by rusty

As fast as you can.
I'm not as think as you drunk I am.
sound more like he's a Rusty Sherrif
When in doubt 'back out'
it aint worth loosing a watch for
you can always reslist on here it will sell just slow at the moment
Avoid like the plague, most definitley a scam
Yes. 'Run Forest, run...'
The way I see it: (1) it looks like a scam, so don't do it, or (2) it may not be a scam but its too strange, so pull the plug anyway.

I'd have stuck to a UK sale only if it was me.

I'd ask for a fake check, others have done it before... so it DOES work.
I'm not as think as you drunk I am.
100% guaranteed scam. I suggest you do not send the watch .... instead, tell him you have sent it, send him a fake tracking number and sit back and enjoy the ride. I have a book at home called "How I scammed the Scammers" or similar... it is full of hilarious anecdotes about a chap who turned these sorts of scams back on themselves. Well worth a read. :albino:
Ian
may have been covered before but if not......
If the address on the paypal payment is teh same as the address requested by the buyer and the paypal account is verified then you are covered under the seller protection rules.
If the address they are asking you to send the watch to is NOT on the paypal notification then it is likely fraud and you should give paypal a call to notify them, if you send an item to any other address than the one given to you via paypal you are NOT covered in the even t of fraud
Dave
Just re-read it and he wants it for his son, but he wants you to send it to "her", transgender perhaps

I got an email like this once but it was a fake email and no money was shown in my Paypal account.
Give them Hell, I'd be tempted to have some sport too though!

Just spent 20 mins scouring ebay to find some way of reporting this knobhead, Ebay are Frikkin useless, only way I can see is to wait and report as an unpaying bidder, anyone have a Phone number fro the bay as they try to divert you to ask questions and none of them fit, they seem to be a bit like an Ostrich with it's head stuck in the ground !
Definitely sounds like a scam you are doing the right thing good luck with eBay have you looked at
the resolution center on there?
This says it ALL! :DOriginally Posted by mr1973
A clumsy and very amateurish scam attempt in every respect! :bounce:
Not even a whisper of any funds arriving into the old Paypal account
You used to be able to have an interactive chat if you logged on to ebay.com and NOT ebay.co.uk. The link used to come up on the home page. I'm not sure if you still can but its worth a try.Originally Posted by Chartman69

You should be safe if:
1. You transfer the money out of your paypal account.
2. When the money is in your bank account send the watch to the verified paypal address.
3. Use Royal Mail special delivery with insurance cover up to the full value of the watch.
4. Don't let into pressure from buyer about sending to non-verified addresses.
Chris
Well After about half an our on a nvirtual chat with Ebay person , his advice was wait four days then go to the resolution centre ...yadda yadd
My response was....This is an attempted crime I want YOU ( Ebay ) to sort this now, please get your supervisor......
Reply in 2 mins... " We have now credit all Fee's back to your account in relation to this transaction "
No answer to questions about what Ebay would do to the Scammer  Now I am very tempted to send Mr Abedaygo a Fresh Dog Shit Sandwich, probably worth the postage to SA :D

I really liked this one where they made a scammer copy an entire Harry Potter book by hand..

And it gets worse (or better!).. This scammer tattoo'd himself

There's lots more, just can't remember them.. Plenty of those where they arrange a meeting in a plaza in Rome or something, then check out the scammers on webcam

It all sounds very strange to me. I lived in SA for 9 years and know that area very well and it's a very wealthy suburb of Pretoria. Like one of the previous posts stated, make sure the funds are actually in your account. I'm sure eBay would be able to offer assistance, so i think it's worth a try.
 just read the okorie~ tattoo one that really is funny. Thanks for link.Originally Posted by vaizki
TOTALLY dodgy Ian,
I had a similar scam a few years back. That's why I stopped using 'Buy it now' because it attracts this type of thing. Not sure how you sort out the paypal stuff etc and return the payment, but I`d be very careful.
