I buy the argument that some people have moved from demonstrating status (via a recognisably expensive watch) to showcasing knowledge (a watch known only to fellow cognoscenti).

    But I’d also argue...

It’s but one of several Artya watches on eBay. All have crazy prices but look dreadful.

The emperor has no clothes and no decent watches.

I quite like it, but this watch isn’t worth £3k.

It’s competing with the All-black Ceramic HydroConquest from Longines (similar price). And the Longines is entirely ceramic, which is rare for a...

Why isn’t duty payable for watches? Post-Brexit, I’ve had to buy some stuff from the EU, such as motorcycle clothing and parts. Everything had import duty (plus VAT) added to it.

    Nickel-free watch strap buckles?

Please could anyone advise where I might source nickel-free watch strap buckles? They could be nickel-free steel, titanium, etc. But I’m uncertain where look.

I’m not certain but thought the import tax free limit was £125.

Above this value, there’s both VAT and import duties, plus the courier’s charge. It’s not easy to calculate the cost of buying from...

That Sealander Elite looks fantastic. I have seen Christopher Ward’s Ti casework in the metal, and it’s right up there with the best in the titanium business.

I reckon there are a few. For instance, rare German brands like Damasko say ‘watch guy’ to me.

But there are undoubtedly borderline brands. You might buy a Speedie or an Oris because you’re a WIS...

Automatic movement, carbon case: Squale T-183

In this style (carbon case, distinctive look), is Squale the only competition? Squale offers the T-183 watch in a couple of colours, and they are automatics with carbon and glass fibre cases for...

How well do you think the carbon case will resist scratches? Better or worse than steel?

I too love the watch’s look but can’t get over the price. It’s a plastic quartz that costs two-and-a-half grand!

Breitling must be laughing all the way to the Swiss bank.

I gather the discontinuations reflect Damasko’s move from ETA to in-house movements. But I imagine we’ll eventually see a replacement for the DS30 that features Damasko’s A26 movement.

I like the unindexed bezel but agree that a splash of colour would make it even better. Nonetheless, Damasko could have another winner on its hands :encouragement:

I have found the name and logo unnoticeable on the wrist. They (only) stand out online, but internet photos don’t show how things look in the metal.

Can we have a titanium case, please?

This design is my favourite too, but can we have a titanium version, please? I wouldn't like my nickel allergy to ruin any missions to save the world. :smile-new:

    Precista Mission Timer

After a short interlude :smile-new:, isn't the Precista Mission Timer finally on the cards?

My vote would be for a titanium case, but I'm not holding my breath on this mission.

I love Oris’ bracelet because it’s incredibly comfortable and distinctive. And the characteristic lugs make the watch ‘wear small’. On the wrist, my 44mm Oris looks smaller than my 42mm CW.

    Also,...
