Yep, know quite a few stuck in this cycle.
Yes, didn't see that one coming. People paying more for houses than they would have been before with stamp duty!
When covid hit I very wrongly thought a crash was inevitable then. I'm thinking we won't see an actual crash now either, just an erosion of value as inflation outstrips house price rises.
PAYE?
I'd have thought rather than unfurnished, loads of furnished flats for sale would smell of BtL offload? Otherwise the vendors only have to find somewhere for what is basically valueless used...
Being balls deep in anything is preferable to Cherie.
Makes sense, we see mainly what's outside our front doors.
I'd guess flats are often a first step on the ladder before buying a house to settle down in.
Only about a fifth of Britain's housing stock is flats. And I'd guess a large percentage of these are in inner cities.
Quick update and PSA.
I had £5475 in my Rainyday Saver account and received a message from Barclays suggesting I put the £475 in a Blue Rewards saver account. This pays 3.04% interest p.a. (reduced...
Double figures for a few years though despite the 15% being a tad misleading. I remember my mortgage being three weeks wages not including the endowment....
Panorama last night was about the environmental cost of data centres. Staines and a few other outer London boroughs have had to shelve plans for new housing projects because there won't be enough...
This 110%^^^^
Ah yes, a quick Google hasn't shown me the numbers but they are calling it Sherford New Town, so 40,000 is feasible in that case.
The quality or lack of sounds like it will have to be addressed or...
Sounds more realistic.
40,000! Are you sure? That's more than two thirds of the total housing stock in my entire county.
May reduce house prices from where they are now, thereby reducing the number of people who have to rent because they cannot afford to buy.
For the record, I have no moral objection to btl. Savings...
Some of them will be sure to pile in soon telling us how they are doing the poor a service and that rents would be higher if there weren't so many altruistic private landlords like them (or some such...
Good shout, in the process of setting it up myself, thanks. The high interest is only up to £5k mind and 0.25% after that if I'veread it right. Still, it's a free £250 a year!
This^^^.
During the pandemic my housing estate was literally riddled with extensions and the like being built. It's a relatively cheap area, mainly semi deta bungalows that were well below 200k pre...
As you are buying it as a home and not an investment and it is where you want to be then definitely go for it. "Life is what happens to you while you are busy making other plans" as a wise man once...
Better off with buckets, it leaks out of baskets unless you walk back very quickly.
The sheep and rabbits like sheltering under the panels. I've never walked there in the dark, so no idea if the fauna now glows ;)
This solar farm is a good few miles from me, but the lane running along the bottom of the satellite image is one of my regular walks. The lane is single track and very very quiet (except when the...
No no, of course its not a good move! You have to stay in a five bedroom behemoth, which is cold, draughty, and ruinous to try and heat anyway. Where you can no longer look after the garden or get...
My parents were in a similar house, double fronted, four bedrooms, three living rooms etc. If it wasn't for the fact my mum developed serious mobility issues and they had to move to a purpose built...
