no idea if this is the answer but my ftse 100 etf saved me last year. i believe because the dollar was seen as the only safe haven in volatile markets, and around 80% of FTSE 100 earnings are...
good point, so a weaker pound might actually be a good thing. but then maybe tariffs etc will make things harder for the big UK companies? seems very hard to map out the full consequences..
i bought ftse pretty much on that basis, hope no deal doesnt scupper me
agree with all you're saying raffe, the only caveat is that i wouldn't have spotted TSLA back when the SMT guys did- weren't they very early investors?. so surely they deserve some credit for that?
i go back and forth on this. in theory this should be a great environment for active stock pickers. but then in the last decade i'm told the S&P has outstripped all the professional fund managers....
all you're saying makes sense, but i also think the market is able to see 'past' bad economic fundamentals when the liquidity taps are open and there's no other return on cash...
does seem like the vaccine news overall is promising, think i'm going to start putting my 90% cash back into trackers.

on gold, i think the risk of inflation can't be ruled out... so some exposure does make sense to me.

i know very little about economics, but aren't interest rate hikes the main tool for central banks to rein in inflation? so perhaps that's what some economists are saying, trillions of dollars pumped...
i've seen quite a few economists forecasting post-war levels of inflation, once the economy starts moving again- which in theory should be good for the property market i imagine? i don't understand...

fundsmith only 2.3% cash according to latest published data. its not so easy when you're running £17 billion i think. plus, many fund managers take the view it's their job to be in the market
