I read that first, it's great. I also like Diamond Age a lot, although I seem to be in a minority there. The co-authored books tend to be average though.

Interesting to see O'Brian discussions... for what it's worth, I much prefer the later Patrick O'Brian books, though I've read them all. The characters develop over the series, so the human stories...
