The more I think about it, I’m drawn towards a clean, easy to read face, maybe strap rather than bracelet, reliable and hard wearing. Oh and must be comfortable

No a date display is not a necessity at all.
In fact I’m beginning to think that I probably don’t need a chronograph either as I’d not use the extra features, and probably couldn’t even see them...
