I considered having it done on a new car but then decided against it. At £500-1000 I decided I could live without it.

Opted for Meguiars Hybrid Ceramic Wax every month or so instead.

This. Had an '04 X-Trail for some years and couldn't fault it. Great cars for the money.

I'd walk away and let someone else worry about it. If you ever want to sell people will be asking the same questions you are. Why buy problems, life's too short.
