    Pretty much true.
    You can fashion one out of thin spring wire if you find the movement rattles about in the case once closed up.

    Unless it comes from the identical watch,chances are the stem length will be either too short, in which case worthless. Or too long and you back in the same position, as you will need to remove crown...

    Probably not a good idea to hold by the square, if you are too brutal the stem will snap at its weakest part-the cut out for the bolt piece.
