I’m really not surprised they refused to discount the display model.
Pragnells did the same when I bought my Submariner in 2004.

Pragnells did the same when I bought my Submariner in 2004.
For that type of watch that would be the difference between a comfortable size (36mm) and unwearable (39mm) for me.
