I would say that the sizing is pretty generous - you can certainly get away with thick socks.

Mine are great! But I'm not sure who makes them for Hoggs - one of the well-known Northampton shoe makers, I believe.
The Loake "1880" range are all made in the UK, the other ranges are not.
I have a pair of "Hoggs of Fife" brogue boots which are excellent in the winter and are gradually taking on character.
