Pelecanos is a master storyteller & the dialogue & period settings are utterly convincing. Brilliant crime fiction :eagerness:
"The Devil in the White City" by Erik Larson.
The incredible true story of the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, and a serial killer. It tells the stories of two men, Daniel H. Burnham, the architect...
'Beyond Black' by Hilary Mantel. A wonderful yarn by a great writer :thumbright:
'A Swell Looking Babe' by Jim Thompson. Hard-boiled noir at its best :thumbright:
'The Pale Blue Eye' by Louis Bayard - a good yarn, well told :)
Wonderful - If you enjoyed reading Peake, try 'Mr Pye' :)
I've always liked the 'end of the world' genre.
An old favourite is John Christopher's 1956 'No Blade of Grass'
(aka 'The Death of Grass').
Cheers :)
Atonement by Ian McKewan. A superb novel by a great writer.
Anyone like Jack Vance?
His 1966 'The Eyes of the Overworld' is, in IMO, a fantasy classic.
