..and starring Nicolas Cage, doing a good job for once. Quite a dark movie - especially Vanessa Hudgens character.
Anyone seen The World's End ?
I think I liked it, but it did not get anywhere near the reaction that Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz got out of me. More like Paul in terms of laugh coefficient.

Of course, you have to...
Just got back from The Wolverine. As usual, my 13 year old son loved it, but I'll give it a 'reasonable' rather than a 'good'. Thrashing a story/character getting a bit old and stale by now I think.
Another great 'use the kids as an excuse' movie. Took our 13 year old to Star Trek: Into Darkness last night.
Absolutely, stonkingly brilliant. Especially if you grew up with Star Trek, as I did....
More obscure early sci-fi that had a role in shaping more famous movies. Not as clear an influence as the Alien background ones, but these were studied by Stanley Kubric while he was planning 2001- A...
If you like superhero movies, Iron Man 3 is a blast. Not quite as good as the first one in my opinion, but a lot better than Iron Man 2.
My 13 year old son loved it, which was the whole point...
I have now watched it and can confirm that I think it is exceptionally good. Totally unlike anything else Rock Hudson did.
The version I watched was the director's 'restored' version. A surprising...
I have heard that is very good. I must see if I can get hold of a copy to watch it.
...more pre- Alien (1979) research as prompted by Seamaster 73's post. Purely for academic interest of course. Planet of the Vampires (1965), which has a much more impressive original Italian title:...
Just got back from seeing Oblivion. Surprisingly good in my opinion. Not great, but at least a grown-up sci-fi and the cinematography is stunning.
I think The Matrix meets Independence Day meets I...
Just got back home after taking my son to see A Good Day to Die Hard.
It is crap.
..next on my list to watch, thank you. 1965 I believe. I understand that one (Planet of the Vampires in English) was the basis for Alien's cinematography, though I can't comment as I have not seen it...
Continuing my highly intellectual exploration of 1950s sci-fi, It! The Terror From Beyond Space (1958):

I have fondness for 1950s sci-f1 trash.
Great fun. Giant radioactive crabs that eat your...
Lincoln - I am sure it is hugely significant to US citizens, but really a pretty drawn out, over-long and boring film in my opinion. Tommy Lee Jones is awful in the supporting role, but will probably...
I am not sure how I had managed to not see it before, but I watched The Usual Suspects last night. From 1995 I think. Really enjoyed it. Kevin Spacey was brilliant in the film and won his first Oscar...
