There's one way to tell what a watch is worth. What it has sold for. I can find 4 that have sold £3,600, £3,775, £3,995 and £4,150. One on here the other 3 on eBay.

I would say a 1601 is a bit more fragile than a modern Datejust. Wouldn't be the best choice in my opinion far an everyday watch.

Very optimistic for a mans sports watch. You would get a 1601 or 1603 or maybe an air King but explorers, subs, gmt etc you will struggle. Specially if you want a box and papers.

Dealers will be dearer. Check places like chrono 24 and eBay for private sales. I think many of the nos will just be complete sets serviced by and independent.
