    Anyone near Linthwaite/Huddersfield

    Sorry this is non-watch related.

I need to buy some plates from eBay. They are collection only from Linthwaite but I’m in London. Basically I need someone to collect them (they will be pre-paid),...

    Oldest watch in your collection

What’s your oldest wristwatch in regular use guys? Mine is this 2nd Moscow Watch Factory 43mm from 1937, still ticking (loudly) after 84 years.

Some of their Google reviews make me very hesitant to consign my 16600 there for service. I don’t need new dial, hands, case, movement etc etc, just a simple service.

Stunning dial. I think it’s my own failing but after a few days with a beautiful watch like this I start to feel that I need a bit of rough and go back to my vintage divers.

Sounds like it needs inspection from a professional. It may be better to use a competent independent for a brief inspection although STS are pretty quick but may insist on full service.

Do you use PayPal with eBay, because those fees have to be taken into account? When I buy cheaper watches I usually message the chrono seller suggesting 20% off for a direct sale.

Personally I would never pay more than £4K / $6K for a Datejust, whatever dial it had. Condition is important, sharp case lines, little polishing and freshly serviced. I would look for a cheaper one....

I agree about the bright white hands - they just look a bit “tacked on”. Apart from that a great watch.

Although saying that, I’ve gone from a Volvo Amazon to a Mercedes W123. Double the quality for about 60% of the price.

No particular advice from me except that I’ve never sworn as much as when trying to remove certain bracelets.

Calmly does it and I’m sure you’ll have it out with the advice above.

    Advice re Submariner book

I also saw the book in Costco but this was the David Silver book. Tons of pictures but little of instructional value IMO.

Might be worth going to flick through it if you’re a Costco member.

When you say “hours out” do you mean fast or slow. If the former, I’m just wondering if it’s only magnitised, which would be cheap and simple to put right.
