Actually it's both! I'm an engineer but working in the finance sector for many years.

The case had been polished a few times and "refinished" by hand - so the corner where quite round and welding would have been necesary to get corners fixed.
The owner decided this was good...

I'm in the process of building a new machine that (in theory) should produce perfect straight graining - if it works I'll be happy to give your Exp II bezel a "touch up"! ;)

My guess is too much speed!
I’ve had similar results (bead blasting effects) when using paper of low quality - the abrasive material comes lose and "rolls" over the surface creating the bead...
Actually I think it’s hard to mess up with the correct mop!
Here is a picture of the type I usually use (Shown with a case ready to be brushed) - a simple jig for the bracelet and the brushing...
It looks like its ordinary paper with tape added on the back side for strength!
For you bracelet - why not just mask the middle and then brush the bracelet using a abrasive mop disc?
New discs with 120 to 600 grit has finally arrived - so will try to lapp some more cases soon!

I had a bunch of O-rings in my workshop - "supply and demand"! ;)
It gets a bit stretched just at start up (~1s) but after that it's not a problem and i actually think it helps to put less strain...

I've done some minor modifications to the setup with a "help wheel" to make the disc more stable and flex less .
I have also ordered new sandingdiscs with 120, 240 & 320 grain...

Yes - the case is rotated and has contact the whole 360deg!
